Jayden Daniels Hail Mary Pass: 3 Angles To Love

The Jayden Daniels Hail Mary pass gave the Washington Commanders a thrilling victory.

Add the Jayden Daniels Hail Mary pass to his ever-growing highlight reel. Washington’s rookie quarterback has done it again. On Sunday night the Washington Commanders continued their undefeated streak at home, beating the Chicago Bears 18-15 in what could be considered the most exciting fourth quarter comeback comebacks for the Commanders this season. Washington Commanders rookie Quarterback Jayden Daniels, playing with a rib injury, with no time left on the clock, at midfield threw a 52-yarder into a crowd only to have it tipped over into the endzone into Wide Receiver Noah Brown’s hands.

The Jayden Daniels Hail Mary pass was heart-wrenching for Bears fans. The Bears sideline was shocked. People were screaming. The Commanders’ sideline charged the field in joy and celebration like it was an NCAA No. 1 seed upset. Overall it was a beautiful chaos that fans have long waited to see. The Jayden Daniels Hail Mary Pass was great, but there’s more to the story.

The TV Commentary Was On Point On Jayden Daniels Hail Mary Pass

With the CBS Sports broadcasting team of  Jim Nantz (play-by-play) and former Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo (analyst) on the call, the Jayden Daniels Hail Mary pass was narrated to perfection. Coming down to the last moments of Sunday’s win, Romo began forecasting the Commanders’ options on the Jayden Daniels Hail Mary pass.

“I’m telling you, right now, this is not the Hail Mary time…This is where [the Bears] are going to be way back. I’m throwing an eight- to 12-yard out cut that should take three seconds max… You might even be able to get up to 13 to 15 [yards] … but get yourself into a possible chance for the Hail Mary.”

He was correct. Daniels tossed a quick 13-yarder to Wide Receiver Terry McLaurin to get close to midfield. Romo also mentioned the thought of the Commanders bringing in backup Quarterback Marcus Mariota to have range on a long-distance throw, but that didn’t happen. He suggested this in considering Daniels’ rib injury and the fact he played the entire game. Then Nantz took over:

“It comes down to one last play … and it’s going to be getting longer by the second…He’s all the way back at the 30-yard line; now you can step into it. Here comes the Hail Mary with the game on the line … and the ball is caught! Caught! It’s a miracle! It’s Noah Brown! Oh my goodness! This town is going crazy. It’s a madhouse in Landover, Maryland!”

Emmanuel Forbes Jr. Shows Compassion

Amid the celebration over the Jayden Daniels Hail Mary pass, the cameras caught a heartfelt moment. After the game was officially over, two Bears players were sitting on the field, looking in disbelief: Defensive backs Jaylon Jones and Josh Blackwell. A YouTube video uploaded by CBS Sports shows Forbes helping the two men to their feet.  It’s unclear if Forbes said anything to them, but they seemed better afterward. Considering Forbes’ struggles with injury early in the season and the doubts surrounding his performance, this was a good look.

Jayden Daniels Did Not See the Pass

Usually, videos show the quarterback watching the results of his throw to get the response on film. However, Daniels didn’t see the play, he only heard the results. In a video uploaded to X by NFL.com, Daniels said, “I just heard people screaming and our sideline rushing the field…Man it’s specifics and details that we try to coach up but at the end of the day everybody runs to a spot, buy some time and let it fly…giving them a shot, don’t throw the ball out the end zone. That’s my coaching point.”

Final Thoughts

Was it luck? Skill? Divine Intervention? It doesn’t matter. All that matters is the Commanders are 6-2.  Teams practice tips and fumble recoveries all day. It’s always special when everything comes together. It was the last play of the game, with no time on the clock.  The team has to score, and they’re depending on an injured rookie quarterback. He hurls it and fate does the rest. This was cinema. The Jayden Daniels Hail Mary pass is just one of the many highlights of this young man, and there’s a lot of football left to play.
