Jason Kidd Makes Strong Statement on Celtics Jaylen Brown After Game 1

Markieff Morris

During a press conference, Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd made a statement on Celtics Jaylen Brown. This came after Boston took the win on Thursday, June 6th. Brown had a great game against the Mavs on both ends of the court. He was tasked with covering Luka Doncic for a decent amount of time and made multiple strong defensive plays.

The Boston Celtics would end up beating Dallas 107-89. Holding a team with Doncic and Kyrie Irving to below 100 is a great achievement, especially in the playoffs. Clearly, the performance impacted Kidd’s thoughts on the team and Brown.

Kidd Chooses Celtics Jaylen Brown Over Jayson Tatum

Jason Kidd

Jason Kidd obviously has a lot to think about before Sunday night. He has decisions to make and needs to figure out a scheme that will put his team over the Celtics. However, he has at least made one definitive statement on Finals game one about Celtics Jaylen Brown. During his talk with the press, he stated, “Well, Jaylen’s their best player.” He would continue to discuss what Brown did in the game and how he proved to be the best that night with his defensive stops and ability to get into the paint and to the line.

This is a big deal, as Jayson Tatum, Brown’s costar, is often dubbed the best on the team. However, the narrative has shifted recently as it seems more people are finally viewing them as a duo and not a Batman and Robin situation. However, Kidd has drawn his own line in the sand with what he said. One thing is certain: Brown had the better game.

Brown’s Game 1 Stats

Jaylen Brown 1

Brown led his team in scoring on Thursday night with his 22-point showing. It seemed like Kidd and his Mavs couldn’t figure out how to stop him. He was playing bully ball in the paint and managed not to turn over the ball much. Brown also had six rebounds and two assists. His offense was relatively clean and he looked like he was flying on the court as he slammed the ball down on Daniel Gafford and Kyrie Irving

It wasn’t just his offense that was on fire. As previously stated, Brown was also locked in defensively. He finished the night with three big blocks and three steals. He stripped Doncic of the ball and made it very difficult for Irving to have a good night. With his game on point, he was crucial to the Celtics big leads through out the game.

Can Brown Repeat in Game 2

Jaylen Brown 2

Championships aren’t won after the first game. The Dallas Mavericks are a great team, and Jason Kidd will probably have a plan for game two. The Celtics will need to be ready for them to come out hot. Last game, the Cs were playing off the chart team basketball. This needs to continue, and Jaylen Brown needs to stay locked in. There is no time for them to have a bad game.

The chances that the Celtics will sweep are very low. However, if they play how they did the first night, there is a chance they could end things in five or six. Taking this to a game seven could end very poorly with how well Doncic plays in need-to-win games. The key will be if they can stop Celtics Jaylen Brown and the rest of the starters from getting hot.
