Jannik Sinner On Elite Form As He Brushes Past Serbian Into Wimbledon 4th Round

Jannik Sinner’s quest for his second Grand Slam title continued finely against Miomir Kecmanovic today. On Center Court, the world No. 1 showed class and elite performance to defeat his Serbian opponent. The Italian was stretching and sliding on grass like prime Novak Djokovic like he was running on a clay court.

Jannik Sinner has now amassed 6,000 points in 2024 and is 1,315 points ahead of Alexander Zverev who’s the second-best performer of the year in the Race to Turin rankings. Sinner’s third-round clash against Kecmanovic was nothing like the epic battle between him and his Italian compatriot, Matteo Berrettini on Wednesday that had required three tiebreaks.

Sinner Shows Brilliance Against Kecmanovic

One of the new three dominating tennis, Jannik Sinner, the ATP-ranked world No. 1, continued his excellent 2024 season with a routine win over Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in the Wimbledon Championships third round.

Jannik Sinner kicked off the match on Center Court with a dominant display. The Italian capped a 10-shot rally with a huge backhand winner down the line that graced the baseline to give him the quick break of Kecmanovic’s serve in the second game of the first set.

The first set was full of moments that Jannik Sinner could be extremely proud of, consistently showing his trademark fist bump. He rounded up the set in the seventh game with a 116-mph first serve down the T that Kecmanovic returned into the net. Sinner didn’t face a single breakpoint all through the set.

Jannik Sinner’s imperial form continued in the second set with his movement showing extreme command of the court due to his excellent physical condition and athleticism. His coverage of the net was also at the top of his game as he won a few points off the Serbian’s serve at the net.

Jannik Sinner Reaches Wimbledon 4th Round

Miomir Kecmanovic had moments of brilliance of his own, pulling out powerful forehands against his opponent, but Jannik Sinner continually showed why he was at the apex of the ATP rankings. With a single break of Kecmanovic’s serve in the second set, Sinner hit a big second serve out wide that Kecmanovic knocked beyond the tramlines, to seal the second set. The Italian still didn’t face a single breakpoint all set.

Miomir Kecmanovic produced his first breakpoint on Jannik Sinner’s serve in the eighth game of the third set. With Sinner leading 5-2 on serve but 30-40 down in the game, he pulled out a huge forehand on the run that cannoned across the court and well past Kecmanovic’s racket to save the breakpoint.

Two points later, Kecmanovic knocked a forehand beyond the baseline to gift Sinner the win. Jannik Sinner will match into the Wimbledon Championships fourth round. The Italian will face either Denis Shapovalov or Ben Shelton in the fourth round. The third-round match between the Canadian and the young American has been suspended till tomorrow.

Jannik Sinner is hunting another Grand Slam title since defeating Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open final in January.

I’m very happy about my performance. I was hitting the ball with a good pace. Thanks, everyone for staying so long, I know it’s been a very, very busy day here on the Centre Court. I’m glad to finish it off.

It feels great to be back at Wimbledon, it’s a very special place, if not the most special place to play tennis. Me and my team are working very hard, my game has improved, but we still keep improving.

We try to get better every day. Let’s see what’s coming this year here in London. Every year I feel like I’m improving [on grass].
