Jamie Chadwick: Possible NTT Opportunity a Career 1st

Jamie Chadwick, driver for Andretti Global, is the first woman to compete in the IndyCar NXT road course series. She ran a highly exceptional Grand Prix at the Road America race and could hold her own by leading every lap, ultimately winning a pole. The race was unforgettable because she wound up fending off teammate Louis Foster, who has had a pretty impressive career himself.

He recently won the Indy NXT Championship this year and the Indy Pro 2000 in 2023, winning seven races and five poles overall. Chadwick has tried her best to make strides within the sport, and this determination is what led her straight to becoming the first woman in Indy NXT since Pippa Mann in 2010 to win an Indy NXT race. The victory was long overdue and well deserved, putting her on track to compete for a promotion with NTT.

Jamie Chadwick started her career in motorsports at 12 while leisurely kart racing with her brothers. She was also pretty fond of hockey, turning down a competition to participate in winning a scholarship to run with her brother Oliver in the JHR Developments Team, where she pulled a tenth-place win and five podium wins during her time with the team. Being part of the team at a young age was a big deal, especially after winning the Ginetta Junior Scholarship that pushed her into racing sports cars.

The success ultimately led Jamie Chadwick to chase her dreams of going professional and later on pursuing IndyCar. The dream came to fruition in 2017 when she climbed into her first single-seater F3, which was just as successful as her early racing days, becoming the BRDC’s British Formula 3 champion and the only female to compete in the race. That same year, Jamie Chadwick ranked eighth overall.

However, it was the first win that caused people to start taking notice of her as a driver in 2018, achieving an unthinkable win at the Formula 3 Brands Hatch Grand Prix. She would continue with F3 and pick up F1 until coming stateside in 2023 to race for Andretti Global in Indy NXT. The move to Andretti Global has been thought to push her to the height of her career and win her first career pole.

What’s Next for Jamie Chadwick?

After becoming the first woman since 2010 to win a pole at an Indy NXT road course and the first in 14 years in the series, Jamie Chadwick has her sights set on being promoted. However, she’s unsure how far off this is, even though she had a stellar season driving for Andretti Global. She’s hoping the success she accrued this season will elevate her into becoming a part of Andretti Global’s NTT lineup featuring Colton Herta, Kyle Kirkwood, and Marcus Ericsson.

The only problem Jamie Chadwick may run into is that Andretti Global recently dropped one of its NTT drivers, leaving just Herta, Kirkwood, and Ericsson, and is not looking to add a fourth driver to the lineup. The speculated reason for the reduction is the proposed charter that has been in discussion since August, but she’s not letting this alter her perception. She’s optimistic that she’ll have an opportunity because she wants to move up in her career, even though she knows doing so won’t be easy.

Jamie Chadwick has primarily raced on road course tracks, so transitioning to ovals may make things a bit, though she did place third, qualify for the second row in the lineup, and bring it home in seventh at Iowa Speedway, clinching her sixth top ten finish of 2024. Chadwick ultimately feels like she would have to do better to bring home an oval win, but she’s not ruling out the possibility of moving up if it is offered to her.

“Nothing confirmed yet,” Chadwick stated to Beyond the Flag. “I’d love to obviously move up. That’s the goal is to go to IndyCar, so I’d love to have the opportunity to go up, but it’s super competitive.”

“We had a strong run at Iowa, but I didn’t know how we’re going to necessarily fare on the ovals, so yeah, to have a strong qualifying performance and then, in my opinion, be disappointed with coming seventh, I think is a really positive thing, and I think it puts us in a good place for the rest of the year, especially as a team.”

Final Thoughts

After an impressive run in 2024 with Andretti Global and becoming the first woman since Pippa Mann to become a road course winner, Jamie Chadwick has made many strides and has turned many heads in the IndyCar community and beyond. Though she hopes running at the top and securing the win have given her somewhat of an edge, she continues to live for the moment and will take it as it comes. She’s one to watch out for, and it will be interesting to see how her IndyCar career fares in the coming months.
