Ja’Marr Chase Finally Returns To Practice For Bengals

Ja'Marr Chase has returned to practice.

Good news in Cincinnati, as a three-time pro bowler returned to practice. The majority of the offseason for the Bengals has been surrounded by the noise of Ja’Marr Chase seeking a new contract, and his evident “hold-in.”
Chase returned to the practice today.

With no known contract extension at this time, is it possible one could be close; or is Ja’Marr Chase back at practice to stay in football shape? Will he play in the opener or will he “hold out” into the regular season? If he just practices and then holds out into the regular season, who has he affected most this offseason by being off the field? These are all questions surrounding Ja’Marr Chase heading into the regular season.

Significant Impact

Although Ja’Marr Chase has just returned to practice he has been in the building throughout the offseason. Chase has been seen with the receivers all offseason. Giving advice, and tips to the young guys in the room like Andrei Iosivas and Jermaine Burton. Not having a Ja’Marr Chase on the field has been a blessing in disguise for the Bengals. Without the perennial pro bowler, Cincinnati has had to give the young guys in the room more run with first-string offense.

Ideally, you would want your No. 1 receiver on the field to build chemistry with the quarterback, but in this situation, chemistry is not an issue. Ja’Marr Chase and QB Joe Burrow are one of the best QB-WR connections in the entire NFL.

The Impact Of Today’s News

Tee Higgins is the player most impacted by Chase’s return to the practice field. The fifth-year receiver is going into a contract year after signing his franchise tag to play the 2024 NFL season. Higgins has looked dominant this far during the offseason and could be in line for a career year.

Rookie Jermaine Burton, was excellent during the preseason contests. He caught 8 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Burton has made a strong case to be a major part of the lineup during the 2024 regular season.

Burrow finally completed his first full training camp in his NFL career. In a perfect world, Burrow would have had Ja’Marr Chase alongside him this offseason. Timing would be the only thing that may be a concern between Burrow and Chase, but with their history, they should be fine.

Final Thoughts

A returning Ja’Marr Chase to practice offers a lot of hope to the Bengals faithful that a deal will be done before the opener against the Patriots. Chase has been one of the best receivers in the league since joining the Bengals.

If Chase does play in the opener, expect him to show the world why he was seeking a contract extension early. He has two years remaining on his rookie contract. The fourth-year wide receiver has excelled in every aspect of the game and wants to make sure he is taken care of for the foreseeable future.
