Jalal Yunus stepped down as director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and head of the cricket operations committee on Monday. According to the report, the National Sports Council, Jalal Yunus was requested by 41 control authorities in Bangladesh to resign from his position. And other directors are also under pressure to leave their designations by themselves.
Yunus was a Bangladeshi pacer who played professional cricket in the 1980s. He has had a key job in the BCB since 2009 and became cricket operations chief in 2021. Meanwhile, this decision comes shortly before Bangladesh is slated to meet Pakistan in a two-match Test series beginning on August 21. Both games in the series will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Pakistan.
Jalal Yunus Quits from BCB For Good Reason
Being a star former Bangladesh bowler, Jalal Yunus played a key role in the BCB since 2009 and will become the cricket operations chief in 2021. The former BCB Director stated that he did not want to impede cricket’s advancement in Bangladesh by remaining in the post. “I have resigned for the greater interest of cricket. I am all for cricket running properly and correctly.
“I am right with their intention to replace me as per the constitution. I don’t want to be a stumbling block for cricket’s progress,” Jalal Yunus remarked in his official statement. The NSC can now designate someone to replace the resigned Jalal as director of the BCB. Faruque Ahmed, the 58-year-old former Bangladesh captain and two-time top selector, is expected to be the NSC-nominated director.
Alam Refuses to Step Down from BCB

Meanwhile, Ahmed Sajjadul Alam, the other NSC-nominated director at the BCB, declined the board’s proposal to resign on the same day. “I informed them that because they selected me as an NSC councilor and subsequently I became a director, they had to do it. They can notify me of their decision about me,” he stated. Besides Jalal Yunus, Alam is also an experienced sports organizer who now chairs the BCB’s tournament committee.
The NSC’s action comes after Asif Mahmud, Bangladesh’s new sports adviser, called for reforms in all sports federations, including the BCB. He has stated that he wants to see a political-free athletic environment. BCB, the guardian of Bangladesh’s most popular sport, was founded on its political influence, notably in the past 15 years.
The BCB’s leader, Nazmul Hassan, was the country’s sports minister. Also, the board of directors included a member of parliament, a former MP, a former mayor, and two relatives of the prime minister. Even two of Bangladesh’s best cricketers were members of parliament. As a result, the current government crisis in Bangladesh has had the greatest impact on BCB. In addition, the government may have impacted Jalal Yunus’ resignation decision.
Bangladesh-Pakistan Test Series
Bangladesh will face Pakistan in a two-match Test series beginning on August 21. The second Test of the two-match series will be contested from August 30 to September 3. Both games in the series will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selected the playing eleven for their opening Test against Bangladesh on Monday. The top four pacers for Pakistan are Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Khurram Shahzad, and Mohammad Ali, who will face Bangladesh in the first Test. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is yet to reveal its starting eleven.
