Jake Paul did not beat Mike Tyson on July 20 as he originally had hoped but he did add another win to his professional record.
While it was not as big of an event as a fight with Tyson in AT&T Stadium live-streamed on Netflix would have been, Paul still took another step forward in his career with a TKO win over BKFC star Mike Perry. Though the two fighters promoted the bout as best they could during fight week, Paul referred to the matchup as an “appetizer” for a potential super fight with Tyson and treated Perry as such in the ring.

As many expected, Jake Paul got off to a fast start against Mike Perry, quickly establishing his jab and frustrating the BKFC brawler. In just over a minute, Paul landed an off-balanced knockdown with an overhand right that Perry never saw coming.
For the following five rounds of the fight, Paul would remain in firm control, dropping Perry twice more while bloodying up his opponent. By the end of the fourth round, Paul was visibly exhausted from his constant movement and activity but had ‘Platinum’ essentially out on his feet.
The crowd, broadcast announcers, and fans were impressed by Perry’s durability but another right hand in the sixth round wobbled the 32-year-old against the fence. Sensing the finish, Paul put together his final combination of the fight and put Perry down for the third and final time in the corner. The bare-knuckle phenom rose back to his feet and confirmed that he wished to continue but stumbled to his right when commanded, prompting the referee to wave off the fight.
Reaction from Fans
The crowd in attendance for the fight was clearly in favor of Mike Perry, who resides in Orlando, but not a single viewer appeared to be surprised by the result. On top of having superior boxing experience, Paul significantly outweighed Perry, leading him to be a 5-1 favorite in some sportsbooks.
Fans on social media continued to ridicule Paul for continuing to fight former UFC welterweights despite being the same size as the average light heavyweight in MMA. Despite holding most of his fights around 200 pounds, Paul previously faced Tyron Woodley, Ben Askren, and Nate Diaz; all of whom competed in the UFC at 170 pounds.
Both Paul and Perry thanked the fans in attendance after the fight who applauded in response. The fighters paid their respects to each other afterward, which the fans recognized and appreciated.
Jake Paul Calls out Mike Tyson and Alex Pereira
After he demolished Mike Perry, Jake Paul further teased his rumored upcoming bout with Mike Tyson on Nov. 15 before turning his attention to UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. The callout of Tyson was expected but Paul shocked the crowd by mentioning Pereira’s name, whom he called on FaceTime in the ring right after.
Fans reciprocated the Pereira callout but the Brazilian remains under contract with the UFC for an undisclosed amount of fights as the active 205-pound titleholder. Before committing to MMA full-time in 2020, Pereira gained recognition as a two-division GLORY Kickboxing world champion with a 33-7 record in kickboxing and 1-0 in boxing.
Paul sent a message on the broadcast requesting Tyson to “sign the contract” causing some to ponder the status of their fight but all signs currently point to the two headlining the inaugural live boxing event on Netflix on Nov. 15. Amanda Serrano, who effortlessly stopped Stevie Morgan in the co-main event, is also expected to co-main event the Netflix fight card in a highly anticipated rematch with Katie Taylor.
