Jaden Hardy Agrees To 3-Year, $18 Million Contract Extension

Jaden Hardy will be with the Dallas Mavericks going forward.

Jaden Hardy reportedly agreed to a three-year, $18 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. Hardy, 22, has been a shooting guard for the Mavericks since 2022. He was first drafted with the 37th overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings. He attended Coronado High School in Henderson, Nevada.

Hardy started in his first NBA game on March 11, 2023, where he posted 22 points, two rebounds, and three assists in the Mavericks’ 112-108 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Here’s what you need to know about Hardy’s recent agreement, along with the latest on Quentin Grimes and AJ Lawson.

Jaden Hardy’s Agreement

Jaden Hardy’s reported agreement with the Dallas Mavericks was worth $18 million over three years. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Hardy’s recent contract extension was a rookie-scale one. Hardy was originally drafted by the Sacramento Kings, who traded him to the Mavericks on the 2022 NBA Draft night. He joined the Mavericks’ 2022 NBA Summer League and went from there.

Charania recently posted on X, formerly Twitter, “Dallas Mavericks guard Jaden Hardy has agreed to a three-year, $18 million rookie contract extension, sources tell ESPN. Hardy, 22, has averaged 7.9 points during his two seasons in Dallas.”

Jaden Hardy has emerged as a solid role player for the Mavericks since 2022. He averaged 7.9 points per game while shooting 37.9% from the three-point line in 121 career games (with 12 starts). Hardy’s contract extension can be described as a Mavericks-friendly one, as he might not be playing and might want a change of scenery someday.

More Details About Jaden Hardy

Jaden Hardy’s contract extension wasn’t the only headline on Monday. While the Dallas Mavericks agreed with Hardy, the same wasn’t said for Shooting Guard and Small Forward Quentin Grimes, who reportedly failed to agree on a contract extension with the Mavericks. Grimes, 24, will enter restricted free agency after the 2024-25 NBA season.

Grimes was an offseason acquisition, as he arrived in Dallas from Detroit in exchange for Small Forward Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second round draft picks. The Mavericks’ move with the Detroit Pistons allowed the Mavericks to use their non-taxpayer midlevel exception to sign Small Forward and Shooting Guard Naji Marshall to a three-year, $27 million contract.

In Other News

In other news, Shooting Guard AJ Lawson’s two-year tenure with the Dallas Mavericks ended on a bad note. Lawson, 24, played for the Mavericks and the Mavericks’ NBA G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, from 2022 to 2024. He was waived from his four-year, non-guaranteed contract after the Memphis Grizzlies preseason game, signed to a two-way contract before the Utah Jazz game, and then waived from the Milwaukee Bucks game to make room for Point Guard Jazian Gortman.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Lawson reportedly found a new home, as he plans to sign with the Brooklyn Nets NBA G affiliate, the Long Island Nets, soon. He averaged at least 21 points per game in seven games for the Legends in 2023-24.
