Jacksonville Jaguars Pick Up 5th-Year Option On Travon Walker

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars picked up the fifth-year option on Defensive End Travon Walker Monday afternoon. Walker will reportedly be paid $14.75 million in 2026. He is coming off the best season of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024.

Walker had a career-high 61 tackles and 10.5 sacks. He entered the league with lofty expectations as the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. His NFL career has been disappointing, especially for a former No. 1 overall pick. He has 162 career tackles, 24 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles. Will this work out well for both sides?

Jacksonville Jaguars Season Summary

Jacksonville had a disappointing 2024 campaign. It led to the firing of Head Coach Doug Pederson and the hiring of Liam Coen. The team was also sunk by multiple injuries to Quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He was limited to 10 games, and even when he did play, did not fare well. The Jacksonville Jaguars gave Lawrence one of the biggest contracts in league history last offseason. He must perform better in 2025.

Walker will be part of a Jacksonville defense that struggled in 2024. They were 31st in yards allowed and 32nd against the pass. Jacksonville made some moves this offseason to bolster its defense. They signed Cornerback Jourdan Lewis and Safety Eric Murray. They will hope to improve the unit.

Final Thoughts

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Walker are reportedly working on a contract extension. Today’s move gives the sides two years to agree. It also keeps one of the league’s most promising defenders under contract through the 2026 season.
