The final piece of the 2025 MotoGP grid is set to fall into place with Jack Miller signing with Pramac Yamaha. This step will ensure that he will ride alongside Miguel Oliveira who was earlier announced as the first rider of Yamaha’s new satellite M1 program.
After losing his KTM seat, Jack Miller’s future in MotoGP appeared uncertain, with initial rumors suggesting that Yamaha would choose a rookie to partner with Oliveira. But the situation has changed and on a new day, an Italian rider appears in the Pramac Yamaha team.
Dixy Expert’s Debate on Jack Miller’s Move
In the latest Crash.Net MotoGP podcast, the host of the podcast Jordan Moreland touched on the subject of the impending announcement. He underlined that Pramac, the title sponsor of the San Marino Grand Prix, is likely to unveil its new rider next week. Crash.Net editor Pete McLaren revealed later, clearly that Yamaha had once planned to partner Oliveira with a newcomer.
But what the Yamaha engineers will want is to directly compare the bike, ‘tell us exactly what it needs’ and Valencia is the best chance to do that. The riders are usually mic’d up in the pits now, and all of those recordings will be going back to Japan.
Pete McLaren further, explained how Jack Miller and Oliveira’s combined experience could benefit Yamaha’s development efforts.
If you put together the experience of Jack and Olivera, they’ve ridden every other bike on the grid. That’s a lot of information. And I think that’s probably swung things in Jack’s favour.
He also emphasizes the first test coming at Valencia since this would enable Yamaha to get an initial impression from the two riders. With the signing of Jack Miller Yamaha assured, they still needed to do something with the bike. Given the inputs from both Jack and Oliveira, the team will be in a better position to improve on how M1 can be made to perform better. These senior riders are perfect for providing feedback to engineers compared with other manufacturers regarding Yamaha.

MotoGP journalist Lewis Duncan was not satisfied with that opinion saying that although Yamaha may not be quick to demonstrate it on track, they are also developing. Yamaha Motor Co now has an approach which according to Yamamoto was switched from Ducati’s Max Bartolini to a more European style direction.
The news that Jack Miller signed for Pramac Yamaha is justified because of his experience which he already worked with Bartolini. Duncan also mentioned that it is sad there is no rookie rider in Pramac but Yamaha is focusing on the high-speed testing to adapt to the expected changes in the rules in the 2026 season.
Jack Miller’s Value as a Test Rider
It was also pointed out that Yamaha’s plan to develop his skills was another factor that made them sign him. Apart from the motive power supply contract signed with KTM, Ducati trusted Jack Miller to check and provide feedback on some of the crucial innovations. Duncan praised Miller for his skills as an excellent test rider, citing his work on the ride height device. He added that Miller’s desire to continue racing makes this decision a perfect fit for Yamaha.
Pramac Yamaha acquires an experienced rider and someone who can help in the development of the bikes through Jack Miller, while he has found the racing opportunity he has been searching for.
