The Jack Jones era is over in Las Vegas. At least for now. Despite playing in 24 games after being picked up by the Raiders off waivers in 2023, Las Vegas has decided to move on from their starting cornerback from Arizona State. Attempts at a trade were made but to no avail. Off-the-field issues and questions of effort likely played a part in the absence of trade offers.
Jones’ Stats
Jones had a career-high in interceptions(3) and tackles(69) in 2024 but gave up 9 touchdowns and made the opposing quarterbacks look good with a 108.8 passer rating. He has a total of 7 total interceptions over his three-year career, four of those were returned for touchdowns.
Discipline and Effort Issues
As a rookie in New England, Jones had a share of issues on and off the field. He was arrested at Boston Logan International Airport with a firearm in his carry-on luggage and was released by the Patriots later in the season due to missing curfew.
Following his pickup by the Raiders late in the 2023 season, he appeared to have things on track with a strong end to the season. However, four games into 2024 he was benched due to lack of effort. After the firing of Head Coach Antonio Pierce, it appeared the Jones experience was over. With a new General Manager and Coach, Pete Carroll, this held true.
Final Thoughts
The Raiders will be looking to pick up another cornerback in this month’s draft. With the release of Jones, Vegas will have $3.4 million to find a replacement. Hopefully, Jones can land in a spot that works for his skillset but can also keep him locked into his tasks as a lockdown corner.
