Ja Morant Showcases New 3-Point Celebration| April 13, 2025

Ja Morant and Buddy Hield

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has switched up his new celebration when making a three-pointer. He tossed out his “finger guns” celebration after being fined $75,000 by the league on April 4. Will this celebration be accepted by the league?

Ja Morant Implementing “Grenade Toss” Celebration

Finding himself in another controversial situation after another display of gimmicks and celebrations, the young star was initially “warned” by the league after flashing his iconic ‘finger guns’ at Warriors Guard Buddy Hield on April 1.

While fines were not given out to either initially, the NBA officially came out speaking against the gesture and handed out “warnings” to the two players. The very next game, the Memphis Grizzlies faced off against a scalding hot Miami Heat team. Ja Morant had already decided against adhering to the league’s new rules and displayed his finger guns yet again. The NBA did not take this lightly, fining the star $75,000.

Morant, refusing to stay out of the news spotlight, decided to shake things up a bit and add a new celebration to his select gestures. Days after being fined, Morant showed the public his now viral “Grenade Toss” celebration against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Grizzlies lost the game 125-141 after blowing a lead at halftime and allowing 52 points in the third quarter.

When asked about his new gesture, Morant had this to say: “I’m taking my words and I’m throwing them out there. That’s my celebration now until somebody else has a problem with it, and I’ll find another one.”

Final Thoughts

It’s been a horrendous past few months for the Grizzlies. Seeing their star players injured, firing longtime Head Coach Taylor Jenkins, and having your franchise player constantly under the media’s eye. All of this is constantly distracting. It’s not what you want your players or staff’s attention directed to.

The entire Grizzlies team has been sliding, and the absolute last thing you want to see out of your star player is blatant disrespect towards the league and its rules. It’s a shame after all of his past incidents and events that Ja Morant has simply not learned a thing.
