Last night’s Monday Night Raw marked the 10th anniversary of one of the most decorated tag teams in WWE history, the New Day. A decade ago three talented wrestlers with no direction and lost in the mix created a team that would go on to be legendary. The team of Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods formed a faction that would go on to be one of the best to everyone’s surprise.
The New Day was born and was hated at the beginning, but this is a perfect example of a talent believing in its gimmick. The “Power of Positivity” would rein at the top of the tag team division for a decade. Big E returned and offered his services to Kingston and Woods as a manager, and to fans’ surprise, the duo declined!
New Day Declines Big E’s Offer
Big E appeared on Monday Night Raw after Survivor Series for the first time in years after suffering a possible career-ending neck injury. E offered his services to the New Day as a manager after the apparent break up of Woods and Kingston. Instead of the recently dysfunctional team accepting the help of their former team member, they declined and blamed E for not being there for the team in recent history.
It was an interesting segment that threw fans through a loop. The duo has been showing signs of breaking up, with Woods possibly going heel. Instead, fans get another swerve by creative with Kofi joining Woods in turning heel after a sentimental speech by the injured E. Fans should be excited to see the direction in which they go with this new heel tag team. Many don’t remember the beginning of the New Day when the three were getting booed upon arrival.
Final Thoughts
The New Day has been a dynasty of a tag team over the last decade. They have provided comical relief at times and have been hella entertaining. I am looking forward to this heel version of the New Day. Let’s see how they spin the “Power of Positivity” and being an entire New Day. I always imagined Big E coming back as a heel and absolutely destroying the other two members, making E a legit beast. This angle is completely different from what I thought was going to happen. It sets up for a stale team to get rebranded. They can show a more violent side, similar to when they fought the Usos in Hell in the Cell.
