Isaiah Rodgers Signs 2-Year Deal With The Minnesota Vikings

Former Eagles corner Isaiah Rodgers has just agreed to a two-year $15M deal with $8M fully guaranteed. Rodgers just came off a productive year with the Eagles, winning Super Bowl LIX. After being suspended in 2023 for gambling, he sometimes had a mop-up role in Philadelphia as a backup outside corner. The Vikings replaced Stephon Gillmore with Rodgers, which could be a huge upgrade for Minnesota, especially on a cheaper deal like this one.

During the Super Bowl season for Philly, Rodgers had 26 total tackles and four pass deflections in the regular season for the Eagles. He also added six tackles and a crucial fumble recovery against the Rams in the Divisional Round. He had good moments filling in at times for Darius Slay and Quinyon Mitchell last season and will look to capitalize on this opportunity to start for one of the best defenses in 2024, with the Vikings having a strong season on the defensive side of the ball.

The Vikings signed Rodgers because they needed a younger replacement for Stephon Gillmore who is still available as a free agent out there. The Vikings won the battle for him with the Cowboys and Giants also potential suitors for the young corner. The Vikings are a great fit for him because of their scheme of primarily man-to-man defense and his speed on the outside could provide that stability on the outside.

Conclusion

The Eagles will need to address the corner depth now with the potential departure of Slay and now Rodgers. Minnesota got a good corner on the cheap that brings Super Bowl experience to a young secondary. This move will be one of the underrated moves of the 2025 free agency period.
