Yeah, it happened!
Today marks a significant milestone for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). SRH achieved the highest-ever total in IPL history during their match against Mumbai Indians.
Put in to bat first, SRH posted 277 for 3 on the scoreboard against Mumbai. They defeated MI at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
This remarkable feat saw them break the 11-year-old record for the highest team total in an IPL innings. Previously held by Royal Challengers Bangalore, who scored 263/5 in 20 overs against now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2013.
Aggressive Batting Style by SRH Batsmen
Heinrich Klaasen spearheaded the attack with a breathtaking 80 off 34. But his journey to a half-century was surprisingly the slowest among Sunrisers Hyderabad batters. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head swapped places for the record of the quickest half-century for SRH.
MI captain Hardik Pandya used six bowlers throughout SRH’s innings, with only Jasprit Bumrah maintaining an economy rate below 10. Kwena Maphaka, a 17-year-old debutant, had a challenging start. He conceded 66 runs from his four overs, marking the most expensive debut in IPL history.
Both MI and SRH began the season with defeats. MI lost to Gujarat Titans, while SRH narrowly succumbed to Kolkata Knight Riders.
“We got the best groundsmen in the world,” remarked Klaasen during a chat with broadcasters after SRH’s innings. “The wicket was outstanding. Our top order set the momentum from the beginning. We have exceptional batters at the top.”
Unbelievably, SRH batters hammered a total of 18 sixes and 19 fours collectively. Opener Mayank Agarwal, however, may feel regretful for missing out on capitalizing on such a favorable wicket. He managed only 11 runs off 13 deliveries before his dismissal.
Former SRH captain Aiden Markram also contributed in overall runs, scoring an unbeaten 42 off 28 balls.

Yusuf Pathan Slammed Hardik Pandya’s Captaincy!
Former India and Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Yusuf Pathan criticized MI skipper Hardik Pandya for his questionable captaincy during the first innings. Pandya received flak for underutilizing star bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Especially considering the high economy rates of the other bowlers against SRH.
Following SRH’s record-breaking performance, Pathan expressed his discontent on the social media platform ‘X’. He clearly labeled Pandya’s decisions as poor captaincy. He particularly criticized why Bumrah was given only one over out of the first 11. Despite SRH scoring over 160 runs during that period.
“SRH managed to score 160+ runs in just 11 overs, and @Jaspritbumrah93 has only bowled one over so far? Your best bowler should be given the ball by now. This appears to be poor captaincy to me,” Pathan posted on ‘X’.”
