Inspired Jahanara Alam Gears Up for T20 Asia Cup

Jahanara Alam, a Bangladeshi fast bowler, is benefiting from a rebuilt bowling action that has allowed her to accelerate. It cleared the path for a comeback to the national team after more than a year.

Jahanara, who returned to the national team by earning a spot in the T20 Asia Cup squad after a strong performance in the Dhaka Premier League, where she became the highest wicket-taker with 25 scalps, last played for Bangladesh in a three-match away T20I series against Sri Lanka in May 2023.

The right-arm bowler thanked renowned coach Mohammad Salahuddin. He has worked with Jahanara Alam extensively at the Masco Cricket Academy. After she was dropped from the national team, for helping her make an international comeback.

“Alhamdulillah, I returned to the national squad after a long year, and all credit belongs to Allah. During that year, I trained at Masco Academy for nine months.” Jahanara said.

Jahanara Alam’s Great Comeback

Bangladeshi fast bowler Jahanara Alam is reaping from redesigned bowling movements. It has helped her enhance her pace. It opened the path for a long-awaited return to the national team.

“We attempted to offer her a better game plan so that the ball is more effective, focusing on the tactical aspect of her bowling.

Sheikh Salauddin Sir and the other coaching staff who were present worked very hard with me to improve my performance,” Jahanara said in a statement released by the BCB on Friday.

“In the previous Premier League season, I did well, which can be ascribed to the nine-month training time. So, overall, the mood is very pleasant because I will be able to represent Bangladesh once more,” Jahanara Alam remarked.

Salahuddin stated on Friday that their primary goal was to accelerate Jahanara’s progress while she was at Masco Academy.  “She used to attend here [Masco Academy] on a regular basis, despite the fact that it was distant from Dhaka, and she did all of this because she wanted to achieve better,” Salahuddin said.

We tried to raise her pace because the pace she was bowling didn’t seem good enough to be productive at the international level. Normally, increasing pace is difficult if someone has lost it. But through simple hard work, Jahanara Alam was able to do it and realize what needed to be done to generate pace,” he said.

Bangladesh tried to redesign Jahanara Alam’s bowling action a bit so that she could generate more pace because her previous action made it tough for her to generate pace by bowling with that movement.

Jahanara Alam also stated that she places a high value on her fitness because she understands that it is one factor that can make a difference in the long term and that they hope to make a statement at the upcoming Asia Cup.

“Our first goal is to make it to the semi-finals, and there is an equation that says we can do so if we win the group stage. During that scenario, we might get Pakistan, which is likely to be an easier opponent, and we’re aiming to achieve that.” said the former national skipper.

Pakistan and India are in Group A, alongside Nepal and the UAE, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Malaysia are in Group B.

The top two teams from each group will compete in the semi-finals on July 26, with the final taking place on July 28. Bangladesh will play Sri Lanka on July 20, Thailand on July 22, and Malaysia on July 24.
