Indy NXT News: Myles Rowe’s Amazing Move to Abel Motorsports

Myles Rowe

Myles Rowe, former junior open-wheel standout, is entering what will most likely be the defining moment of his IndyCar career after signing with Abel Motorsports. Owner Bill Abel announced on Thursday, the 26th, that Rowe would join the Indy NXT team in partnership with Force Indy for the 2025 season. Rowe, who just completed his rookie year with HMD Motorsports, has already shown abundant promise.

The rising star secured two top fives and 11 top 10s, putting him in 11th in overall standings, which is pretty impressive for an Indy NXT newcomer. Little did Rowe realize it would be the win that would get him noticed by team owners  Bill Abel and John Brunner, begin a new journey, and push his career to a new level. Will the driver bring the same success to Abel Motorsports in 2025?

Rowe is no stranger to career success, sending shockwaves through the IndyCar community. In 2021, he became the first African American driver in open-wheel history to secure a USF 2000 title and the first series winner for the barely new Indy Force Team. The historic win occurred at New Jersey Motorsports Park on the remaining 20 laps of the race, where he made a last-lap pass that earned him the victory.

However, things looked a little bleak for several seconds toward the finish line as Kiyo Porto, the points leader, fought to keep Myles Rowe from making it to the front. The race was a nail-biter, with the two drivers fighting for the lead until the Georgia native decided to make the risky pass that broke Indy racing history.

The career win was memorable for the driver and HMD Motorsports, significantly benefitting Roger Penske’s vision for Force Indy. The vision aims to promote diversity and acceptance in IndyCar with the Race for Equality and Change Program. Myles Rowe seems to be the person to do that, with his highly inspiring win being the prime example of breaking barriers, which Bill Abel is looking forward to being a part of.

“When we first heard about the opportunity to bring Myles and Force Indy on board, we were immensely excited,” said Abel.

“John and I have been watching Myles for a number of years, and to see his progression as a driver has been remarkable, and something that we knew we wanted to be a part of.”

Bill Abel’s Thoughts on The Rookie

Owner Bill Abel and team manager John Brunner of Abel Motorsports have had a sharp eye on Myles Rowe for a while and are excited to bring his immense talent to their team. The rookie is known for his competitiveness on the track and warm personality off the track, which is needed to grow as a driver and rise to the challenges required of this sport to come out on top.

Abel’s goal for 2025 is to up the ante regarding competition, and Rowe is the answer. He will join Yuven Sandaramoorthy, who has four wins, poles, and nine podiums. He’s also the first racer of Indian descent to win a championship in the USF Road to Indy series at 21 years old. The combined forces of Sandaramoorthy and Myles Rowe will take the team to new heights and get them to compete for more wins and titles.

There’s hope that the IndyCar community will gain more traction with fans and those interested in learning more about Indy NXT with the addition of Myles Rowe to the series, a move Bill Abel supports wholeheartedly. Rowe is thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to race with the team and can’t wait for the start of the 2025 season. The 24-year-old will participate in his first big event with Abel Motorsports on October 18th at the annual Chris Griffis Memorial Test at the iconic Indianapolis Motorspeedway.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the Abel Motorsports family with Force Indy for the 2025 season!” said Rowe.”

Final Thoughts

Myles Rowe is a rising star in the IndyCar community and has proven he has what it takes mind, body, and soul to be the next big name in the Indy NXT Firestone series. Partnering with Abel Motorsports was the chance of a lifetime for the 24-year-old, and it will be interesting to see what he can do moving forward. He’s also inspired many since becoming IndyCar’s first African American driver to win a USF 2000 title at a young age. Myles Rowe will pave the way for many people from diverse cultural backgrounds, of which he is proud.
