As India gets ready for their sole T20 World Cup warm-up match versus Bangladesh, all eyes are on assembling the perfect team to take on the tournament. With Virat Kohli set to join the squad just before the practice match, the main aim will be to use this chance to evaluate the form of all 15 players, who play regularly for their IPL 2024 franchises.
Strategies and Selections: India’s Road to T20 World Cup Success
Everyone involved is working hard to find the right mix, adding their piece to the puzzle of combinations. while Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Siraj are Armed with a lineup of 15 cricket stars from various IPL teams, India’s squad is gearing up for their only T20 World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh, setting the stage for the tournament kick-off on June 5th. While these players have plenty of experience on the field, the real challenge lies in blending their talents to end India’s 13-year drought in global tournaments.
In the warm-up game, except for Virat Kohli, who will join the team just before the match, all other 14 players are expected to get a chance to showcase their skills, despite the match having no official status. This match will be a test of the team’s overall performance after a two-week break. Captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid have some important decisions to make.
Navigating Team Dynamics
Even if Jaiswal is in stellar form, fitting him into the lineup poses a puzzle, potentially benching a heavy-hitting batsman like Shivam Dube. It seems likely that Jaiswal might have to step aside, allowing both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to open, with Dube’s inclusion becoming more probable later in the tournament.
“Shivam Dube is a big hitter. He could be a game-changer in the T20 World Cup. But if he plays, it’s hard to include Yashasvi. Rohit has to decide, and I lean towards having both pace-bowling all-rounders in the team. If Dube plays, his ability against wrist spinners in the later stages could be crucial,” shared Suresh Raina, a prominent figure among India’s top T20 batsmen.
Another challenge for India is finding Jasprit Bumrah’s partner in the opening bowling attack. Both Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj have had inconsistent performances in the IPL. RP Singh, a key figure in India’s first IPL victory, emphasizes the importance of Hardik Pandya’s bowling, suggesting Arshdeep as the secondary frontline seamer on the new pitch.

Considering the bowling conditions in the US, RP suggests that variations will be crucial, tipping the scale in favor of Arshdeep over Siraj.
“As I see it, the pitch might be a bit slow. So, the best length would be just short of full. Although there might not be much swing, bowlers with variations like yorkers, slower balls, and cutters will have an advantage,” RP explained during a promotional event in Delhi.
In such conditions, Arshdeep’s skill set gives him an edge, increasing his chances of success on US pitches, he added. Against Bangladesh, India’s middle order will face a stern test against the spin trio of Mahedi Hasan, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mustafizur Rahman. Dealing with their variations on a slow track will require composure and adaptability, adding another layer of complexity to India’s preparation.
As India fine-tunes its strategy and combination ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, striking the right balance between experience and form will be the key to success in the tournament.
