What was seen at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was nothing less than a spectacle—the celebration of Team India winning the T20 World Cup. Thousands of fans crowded along the roadsides and the stands to cheer for their favorite star cricketers.
For Rohit Sharma, the night was one of the proudest and happiest moments of his playing career. This team’s supporters also repeated the name of their star player in the same intonation the Mumbai Indians once chanted, ‘Sachin, Sachin!’ Other players who were on the same team, and therefore champions, joined in clapping him for being part of that victory.

Such were the moments in Wankhede, and among them was Virat Kohli, who was not indifferent to what was happening. Back in 2011, the Indian population chanted such sweet lyrics as we took Sachin Tendulkar to the 2011 World Cup trophy. Excitement was seen among the players when Kohli accepted such support.
Again, Hardik Pandya’s transformation was enough to make any fan switch from booing in Mumbai Indians colors to singing for the star player. The spectators greeted his name with warm applause, which was a signal of their willingness to accept him back into their lives and start anew.
What is usually a 15-minute drive from the National Centre for Performing Arts to Wankhede Stadium became a parade. Some of the spectators had to endure the downpour and hours of anticipation before the cricketing icons arrived, which they received with ultrasounds of joy.
The celebrations were full of meaning and feelings. Kohli and Rohit Sharma, playing the roles of captains both on and off the field, moved to the tunes of drums, representing the team spirit. They partied till the night, and in the last moments, they were hand-in-hand, trophy in hand, walking into the house.
About the climax, for retiring T20 champions, the victory parade became a triumphant send-off in the presence of the cheers of the fans. This was a moment of payback for Rohit, who oddly did not feature in the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian squad. He too had become selector-in-chief of cricketers of the future like Shivam Dube.

A young Shivam Dube, who probably saw Rohit celebrating his memorable 2007 Indian Premier League final, got the motivation for his fine show in the final. His role resembled the opening innings of Rohit Sharma, where he made a statement about the Mumbai style of play.
Surya Kumar Yadav’s winning catch in the last over gave the night a memory to cherish. Recalling the mass welcome back in India, he was expecting celebrations, and that’s what awaited the team as well.
The return of all the champions to India was received with cheers from all over the place. The Indian players were lavishly welcomed right from the airport—the Delhi airport, to be precise—where a rousing welcome awaited them.
Fan Dedication and Spirit
Sure, Wankhede is not the most conducive place where fans can cheer for the teams or players, but the fans never let themselves be discouraged. Standing through the weather and other hardships like transportation all brought flags, and ardently supporting their favorite team, they were truly dedicated.
It ended the night with a token whereby the captain had to come out and acknowledge the fans with a salute and subsequent bow. It was a moment for us to come together and feel our owe to the people of India for the way and support that they have always given us.
Thus, the win of India’s T20 World Cup unearthed at Wankhede Stadium is not merely the victory of cricket but a testament to the spirit of the game and the fans in India.
