Indianapolis Colts Nab Electric Offensive Weapon On Day 2 Of The 2024 NFL Draft

The Indianapolis Colts lost Samson Ebukam for the season.

The Indianapolis Colts were the recipients of a gift in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. They sat at 15 and got arguably the best defensive player in the draft class, UCLA edge Laiatu Latu. However, questions still remained about their offensive weapons. While the team re-signed Michael Pittman Jr., the wide receiver room needed a boost. The Colts sat back again and had a fringe first-round talent fall in their laps, Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.

Indianapolis Colts Select Adonai Mitchell

The Indianapolis Colts hope they are building one of the best offenses in the league. Fans only got a small taste of Anthony Richardson last year due to injury, but when he was on the field, he was electric. Now, they add a wide receiver who some had as a first-round pick. Adonai Mitchell is a two-time national champion with the Georgia Bulldogs but decided to transfer to Texas to get some more playing opportunities.

He made the most of that opportunity. Mitchell posted a career-best stat line of 55 catches for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns for a team that made the College Football Playoff. Despite his excellent skills, he fell out of the first round, likely due to some reporting on potential off-the-field issues leading up to the draft.

Why Did He Fall?

Adonai Mitchell had some bad press leading up to the weekend. A high-profile NFL social media account posted a report that Mitchell was “uncoachable” and his diabetes caused him to be crabby when his blood sugar was low. While teammates and coaches rushed to the defense of their star wide receiver, this may have scared some teams off. The Indianapolis Colts were happy he fell. He can line up opposite Pittman, and then Alec Pierce can slot in as the WR3.

The Indianapolis Colts’ offense got very interesting after this pick. It has been a while since this team had truly dynamic weapons on offense. The front office hopes Mitchell is out to prove the doubters wrong and has a huge season for the team.
