The Indiana Fever has been one of the most popular WNBA teams this season, thanks to rookie Caitlin Clark. Last night was the Caitlin Clark game that WNBA fans have wanted to see all season. When the Indiana Fever faced the Washington Mystics on Friday night, Clark looked like the star that had millions of Iowa fans follow her everywhere she went.
After an up-and-down week for the Fever, Clark and the team needed this win against the Mystics.
Will Clark and the Fever be able to carry this momentum into their next game?
Caitlin Clark Ties Career High In Last Night’s Win
Clark was known at Iowa for her bold play style of shooting 3s whenever and wherever she could in a calculated fashion. Last night, she tied her WNBA career-high of 30 points. She also shot 7-of-13 from behind the 3-point arc. Clark’s seven three-pointers tied the WNBA rookie record.
Along with making seven 3-pointers and scoring 30 points, she tallied 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals in the 85-83 win over the Mystics. The first 30-point Caitlin Clark game came in a May 28 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks.
Clark was happy with her and the team’s performance in the win:
“It felt good to shoot the ball well. I felt like even my misses were right there,” Clark said. “It was nice to have a night like that, and overall we shot the ball well, 16 made 3s.”
The Last Few Minutes Of The Indiana Fever Win
Although Caitlin Clark scored 30 points, the Indiana Fever only squeaked by the Mystics. Aliyah Boston‘s two missed free throws gave the Washington Mystics an opportunity to take the lead or tie the game while being down 82-80.
Mystics guard Ariel Atkins drove to the basket and missed her shot. The Mystics had to foul and Clark drained one of her two free throws in the final seconds to secure the 85-83 win for the Fever.
This was a major turnaround for Clark after she scored a career-low three points in the Indiana Fever’s 104-68 loss to the New York Liberty. Indiana won its third game of the season, the Mystics are still the only winless team in the WNBA this season with a 0-10 record.
