Indiana Basketball Recruiting: Winning and Losing

Indiana basketball received a stellar commitment in Trent Sisley.

Indiana basketball fans should be excited about the future Coach Mike Woodson is building. Most Indiana basketball fans know the Hoosiers had the No. 1 ranked class in the transfer portal this spring. Yet recruiting never ends. Indiana basketball recently landed a big-time recruit while another got away.

Trent Sisley Commits to Indiana Basketball

Indiana basketball scored its first recruit for 2025 recently. Four-star recruit Trent Sisley of Lincoln City, Indiana, recently announced he’ll play his college basketball for the Indiana Hoosiers. Sisley, the 78th-ranked hoopster in the 2025 class, selected Indiana basketball over in-state rivals Purdue and Notre Dame and Big Ten rivals Michigan State and Iowa.

“It felt like home,” Sisley said. “I could just feel how much Coach Woodson and the whole staff wanted me. The whole staff wanted me throughout the whole recruiting process. Lastly, just the opportunity to be able to come in and contribute.”

Sisley Starred At Heritage Hills High School

Sisely’s commitment to Indiana basketball marks the successful culmination of a three-year recruiting process that began when Indiana offered Sisely a scholarship before his freshman season at Heritage Hills High School in southern Indiana. During his junior year at Heritage Hills, the six-foot-seven Sisley averaged 24 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 1.9 steals per game. He shot 60% from the field and 35% from three-point range.

Sisley Transfers To Monteverde Academy

To better prepare himself for big-time college basketball, Sisley transferred to national powerhouse Monteverde Academy in Florida. “It’s all about bettering myself, developing,” Sisley remarked  “Coach (Kevin) Boyle, great coach, well respected, so I just want to go down there, work on my skills, become more perimeter-oriented a little bit, and get ready to go for college.” Sisley hopes to fill a role similar to that of Big Ten Freshman of the Year Mackenzie Mgbako as a big forward who can knock down three-pointers.

Jalen Haralson Commits To Notre Dame

Sisley and another Indiana basketball target – Jalen Haralson – were AAU teammates. Haralson narrowed his choices to three schools including Indiana. Unfortunately, Haralson chose Notre Dame over Indiana in an announcement last week.

Sisley’s Good Friend Braylon Mullins Could Be a Hoosier

Braylon Mullins, a 6-foot-4 sharpshooter from Greenfield, Indiana, is also a top target for Indiana basketball. Mullins recently trimmed his college choices down to three finalists: Indiana, North Carolina, and UConn. Mullins is the 24th-ranked prospect in the 2025 class.

Having played together over the summer, Sisley and Mullins are good friends. Asked if Sisley’s commitment may sway his son toward IU, Mullins’ father said: “It might. I can’t speak for Braylon on that, but he loves Trent, so I think that could help (IU).” Mullins is expected to decide by mid-October – at least privately. It’s not known when he’ll make his final decision public.

Regardless of how the 2025 recruiting class turns out, Indiana basketball should be much improved for the upcoming season. At least one publication – Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook – picks the Hoosier to win the Big Ten Championship this year. If Mullins picks Indiana, the future could be even brighter.
