The International Cricket Council (ICC) will evaluate Pakistan’s readiness for the Champions Trophy in 2020 when a five-member team from the ICC arrives in Karachi on Tuesday night. On September 21, the four-day visit would come to an end with an assessment of the arrangements in Lahore. During their visit to Pakistan, the ICC’s officials will examine the hotels, practice grounds, and stadium.
To make sure the arrangements live up to expectations, they will also confer with the hotel management, where the teams and officials will stay. According to Reports, the review mission would start in Karachi, go to Islamabad on September 20, finish over the weekend in Lahore, And then the delegation will fly to Dubai on September 21. The senior events manager, events manager, security manager, general manager of cricket, and production manager from ICC will be in the delegation.
ICC Visits Pakistan
Since April, three visits to Pakistan have been made by ICC Pitch Consultant Andy Atkinson, Head of Events Chris Tetley, and ICC Security Manager David Mucker. Nonetheless, the most recent delegation will have certain personnel changes as a result of recent ICC departures, which include the resignations of a few senior functionaries.
Although the visit by the ICC is planned, there have been rumors in the local media that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is running behind schedule with renovations at the three designated venues: Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi’s National Stadium, and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. However, the PCB has high hopes for the timely completion of the project. The PCB is optimistic that the construction contractors will fulfill their deadlines and that the reconstruction of the stadiums in Karachi and Lahore will go quickly.

A PCB representative told this publication, “The Pakistan Cricket Board is steadfastly committed to promoting our venues as top-notch travel destinations, upholding the highest international standards, and strengthening our position on the international sporting stage.”

The Champions Trophy is set to take place from February 19 to March 9. The ICC has approved a budget of 65 million for the eight-team international competition. In addition, the Pakistan Cricket Board has filed a draft Champions Trophy schedule, which is pending ICC clearance. The ambiguity surrounding India’s participation is a major cause of the delay. The ICC and PCB might have to use a hybrid format, akin to the Asia Cup from the previous year, in which Indian matches are held outside of Pakistan if India decides to withdraw.
With the agreement of the ICC, a backup plan to stage some matches outside of Pakistan is included. Sumod Damodar, an ICC veteran, was chosen to join the Chief Executives Committee (CEC). Mubashir Usmani, who was elected to the ICC Board in July, is replaced by Damodar. In place of the present two-year term that expires in July of next year, the Botswana cricket head will serve a one-year term. On September 12, the election got underway.
