As excitement grows for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced an innovative social media moderation program to create a more positive and inclusive online experience for teams and athletes. With over 60 players signed up and onboarding underway, this effort demonstrates the ICC’s commitment to fostering a safer digital environment in the buildup to the event.

To carry out this endeavor, the ICC has collaborated with GoBubble, a UK-based software business specializing in AI-powered solutions. The cooperation uses a combination of artificial intelligence and human monitoring to monitor and filter comments on the ICC’s social media channels, such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, as well as participating players’ profiles.

ICC Announces Initiative

Players who join the initiative will have negative comments immediately removed from their social media profiles, allowing them to focus on their play without being distracted by unpleasant online encounters. On the morning of the opening day of the T20 World Cup, the ICC said that the initiative was aimed to “promote a more positive and inclusive online experience for teams and players” and that more than 60 players had already opted in.

“We are dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all participants and fans of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup; it’s been great to see so many of the players and teams embrace our new initiative,” ICC head of digital, Finn Bradshaw said. South African wicketkeeper Sinalo Jafta described social media protection as “very big” for athletes.

ICC Women’s World Cup 2024

India will meet New Zealand in Dubai on Friday at 7.30 pm IST, immediately following the 2016 champions West Indies’ match against South Africa at the same site. Australia is the most successful team in the competition, with six of the eight titles. England and the West Indies are tied for the same championship. Encouraged by their recent wins against the West Indies and South Africa, last year’s runners-up, the Indian women’s team is prepared to leave its imprint.

Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka belong to Group A. Bangladesh, England, Scotland, South Africa, and the West Indies are all part of Group B. The ICC has increased the total prize fund for the 2024 edition to an astonishing $7,958,080 (US), more than double that of the 2023 event. With this significant rise, the Women’s T20 World Cup winners in 2024 will get an incredible $2.34 million, which is 134% more than the $1 million awarded to the winners, Australia, in 2023.

October 3 marked the start of the ninth Women’s T20 World Cup, hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The 10-team competition began Thursday at 2 p.m. local time (10 a.m. GMT) in Sharjah.
