In the annual meeting of the International Cricket Council in Colombo, the budget for the Champions Trophy scheduled for 2025 was approved. This came on the last day of the ICC meet and will be another big step ahead toward the hosting of the event in Pakistan. The event was attended by Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi and other officials of the PCB. The budget was prepared by ICC Chief Finance Officer Ankur Khanna and PCB Chief Finance Officer Javed Murtaza, who left no stone unturned in bringing their financial affairs for the mega event.
ICC and PCB Collaboration: Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan
Amidst several speculations and reports of alternative plans or even neutral venues, the PCB is adamant that all matches of Champions Trophy 2025 will go ahead in Pakistan. These speculations have been doing the rounds for the past few days, more so than ever regarding the possibility of the Indian cricket team being unwilling to come to Pakistan. And there are even reports that matches in India could be held at some neutral venue instead of in Pakistan. All such notions have flatly been refused by the PCB, which stresses the whole event must go according to plan in Pakistan.
This once again showcases the commitment and determination of Pakistan towards the safe and successful holding of an international cricket event on its soil. There are no considerations of any neutral venue or any other plans; Pakistan is very keen to host the 2025 Champions Trophy on its soil. This was the firm stance that was articulated at the ICC’s annual meet in Colombo from July 19 to 22.
The same page was carried by the delegation led by Chairman PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, as it pressed to insist that the country is ready and willing to stage all matches at home. The three main venues proposed by the PCB are Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. According to the tentative schedule sent to ICC, all of India’s matches are proposed to be held in Lahore so that Pakistan fully utilizes its premier cricketing facilities.
ICC Backs PCB: Champions Trophy 2025 Set in Pakistan
The PCB is keen to hold the entire Champions Trophy in Pakistan as it exudes their confidence in the country’s security and infrastructure. Despite all the rumor-mongering and speculation, there has been a very clear and constant message on the part of the PCB: hosting the event in Pakistan is a question of national pride, as it will work by way of an example in showing the country to be qualified and potent enough to hold any big international sporting event. This resolve comes a dime a dozen, more so because the Champions Trophy comes with a lot of history, and Pakistan happens to be the hosting nation.
Now, with the budget approved, plans for Champions Trophy 2025 will carry on with much greater clarity and purpose. This spells out a shared commitment to the success of the tournament by way of the working association of ICC and PCB financial officers in successfully drawing up a comprehensive budget. The approved budget shall envelope all necessary expenses, from the preparation of venues to security arrangements, thus leaving no stone unturned.
The Champions Trophy 2025 will be a mega event for Pakistan and, hence, another chance to regain its lost reputation as a safe and friendly destination for cricket. A hard stance by the PCB against any notion of playing on neutral venues implies an intention for this very purpose. By bringing all of the matches to Pakistan, the PCB will give fans unforgettable experiences and let the world know how Pakistan is prepared to look after any such mega event on its own. The needed collaboration and planning at the ICC and PCB levels will ensure the smoothness of the 2025 Champions Trophy for the benefit of the game and the host country as a whole.
