Whether it’s a curse, jinx, or a case of being seriously unlucky, no one can argue that Harry Kane’s performances over the last decade do not deserve a trophy. Even after moving to Bayern Munich, where the Bundesliga seems to be a surety, his first season will end trophy-less.
But despite not winning team honors so far, Harry Kane has been in electric form this campaign. Coming close to breaking Lewandowski’s Bundesliga goal record, there’s no doubting his class.
With Bayern Munich’s season all but officially over, can Harry Kane’s goals lead him to the biggest individual accolade of the game?
Team Performance

If Harry Kane’s performances were for the Los Blancos or any other title-winning side, he’d be the frontrunner for the Golden Ball. However, that’s not the case.
Bayern Munich has fallen to uncharacteristically low standards this season, leading to the departure of Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. Everything has gone wrong for the German side, from a lack of cohesion to a dressing room mutiny.
Coinciding with the rise of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen, the German title was lost months ago. Having been eliminated in the DFB Pokal earlier in the season, Bayern’s only hope of a trophy was the Champions League.
Having lost under controversial circumstances against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, in no way can Bayern aid their talisman’s claim for the Ballon d’Or.
Individual Performance

Harry Kane would be the prime candidate if individual performances were the sole determinant of the Ballon d’Or winner. He has an astonishing 56 goal contributions, featuring 44 goals and 12 assists in 45 games. This means Harry Kane has been involved in goal for Bayern Munich every 0.8 games.
Among his goals, 36 are in the Bundesliga, putting him miles ahead in the race for the European Golden Shoe. His 8 in the Champions League, where he’s currently tied with Kylian Mbappe, also has him as the competition’s top scorer.
It’s with such numbers that Erling Halland was able to tie on points with Messi in the last Ballon d’Or voting. However, without a strong trophy backing, Harry Kane remains an outsider for this year’s prize.

What Can Harry Kane do to Win the Ballon d’Or?

Although his club side has let him down, Harry Kane still has one foot in the race with the Euro’s approaching. If he can lead his side to victory in Germany with starring performances and possibly emerge as the tournament’s top scorer and best player, he’d have a strong shout.
However, this may still not be enough as he’ll rely on other countries, including France and Brazil, to have underwhelming performances in the summer. Furthermore, even if Harry Kane wins the Euros, doing so may further cement teammate Jude Bellingham as the frontrunner, especially if he clinches the Champions League.
As it is, Harry Kane can win the Ballon d’Or, but it’s highly unlikely. Considering he’s now 30, he only has a few more years at best to get his hands on a trophy, let alone the Ballon d’Or.
