The Debut of WWE Raw on Netflix has come and gone, and man, was it a huge success! There was a moment during the show that brought me back to 1996. In ’96, the Immortal Hulk Hogan turned his back on his beloved fans, joining the Outsiders as the third man in the beginning of the formation of the New World Order. Well, jump ahead almost 20 years, and the most iconic figure in wrestling history got the return treatment from the fans. The people of Los Angeles did not hold back by basically booing the two-time Hall of Famer out of the building.
Will Hogan Return To Saturday Night Main Event?
The return of Saturday Night’s Main Event was a huge success. The throwback aura was felt throughout the WWE Universe! Superstars from past and present were able to entertain, bringing multiple generations together. Now, there are rumors that the biggest name in professional wrestling history, Hulk Hogan, may be featured on Saturday Night. It may come as a shock that WWE would entertain the thought of having the Immortal one return after the reaction from the Raw on Netflix crowd. Let’s be honest; he got as much heat as Dominik Mysterio does every time he gets on the mic.
The internet wrestling community continued to bash Hogan. He is a well-known President Trump supporter and Republican, which already makes half of the population instantly hate you. It’s sad, I know. Politics aside, he was caught on the recording saying some racial slurs that he got lots of heat for back in 2015. Similar to the kid in Superbad who peed his pants, Jonah Hill said, “People don’t forget!” And we are definitely in the era of time that everything can be relived.
Is Hulkamania Dead?
Hulkamania has come a long way from “runnin’ wild, Brother.” Hogan has partnered up with WWE to promote his new adult beverage, Real American Beer. So, there could be opportunities for guest appearances by the “24-inch pythons.” Whether you like it or not, Hulk Hogan is the reason why wrestling, in general, has escalated to the level it is today. The combination of the Hulkster and former Owner Vince McMahon took wrestling to heights the prior generation could only dream of. It is surprising that WWE would entertain the thought of having him on Saturday Night’s Main Event so shortly after the reaction that he got appearing on the first Raw on Netflix.
There is an old saying, “Don’t meet your heroes.” This may be the perfect case of it. All the Hulkamaniacs that grew up taking their vitamins and saying their prayers got an unfortunate insight into what kind of person Terry Bollea is. This could be a mistake that he may not recover from. In the ’90s, fellow wrestler Kevin Sullivan made it his mission to kill Hulkamania in the wrestling world, and it may have taken 30 more years, but it may finally be dead. I don’t think he will be dropping the leg on anyone any time soon.
Final Thoughts
“Well, let me tell you something, brother,” growing up in the ’80s and ’90s, I would have never thought that Hulk Hogan would be hated so much by the wrestling community. I am not condoning what he did or what he said because there is no room for racism in this world. I just wonder if what he did is irreversible.
To think he is the biggest icon in wrestling, breaking out of the carnival spectacle into the mainstream, making a path for The Rock and John Cena to follow. Wouldn’t this be a great opportunity to bring him in as a heel manager? I’m just saying he could get heat in every town they travel to. Pair him with another heel that they are trying to get heat with. Hmm, it could be a perfect pairing for the “Real American!”
