Houston Texans Head Coach DeMeco Ryans announced earlier today that Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs was diagnosed with a season-ending torn ACL. Diggs suffered the injury late in the third quarter of Sunday’s 23-20 Houston Texans victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Diggs was having a solid season for the Texans. He was seventh in the league with 47 receptions and top 20 in receiving yards(496) and touchdowns(3).
Diggs was dealt to the Houston Texans from the Buffalo Bills during the 2024 NFL Offseason in the final year of his contract. Diggs will enter the offseason as a free agent coming off a major injury. How will the Houston Texans fare in the absence of Diggs over the second half of the season?

Houston’s wide receiver room has been decimated by injury this season and today’s injury news is another example of that. Wide Receiver Nico Collins has been sidelined since October 6 with a hamstring injury. He is expected to return to the field on November 10 against the Detroit Lions. Quarterback C.J. Stroud will need to rely on Tank Dell, John Metchie III, and Dalton Schultz as the receiving situation sorts itself out.
With many of the Houston Texans’ AFC contenders adding receivers before the November 5 NFL Trade Deadline, the Texans should be scouring the NFL landscape for options. The Buffalo Bills acquired Amari Cooper earlier in the year, the Kansas City Chiefs traded for DeAndre Hopkins last week, and the Baltimore Ravens traded for Diontae Johnson just as the Diggs injury news was announced. Houston Texans General Manager Nick Caserio has a week remaining to find a way to bolster the team’s wide receivers for the second half of the regular season.
Houston’s Upcoming Schedule
Houston will have no time to dwell on the injury news as they go on the road to face a New York Jets team that is in freefall on “Thursday Night Football.” Following their trip to New Jersey, Houston hosts the Detroit Lions and then visits the Dallas Cowboys. The Houston Texans(6-2) currently are the No. 2 seed in the AFC. Houston has Super Bowl aspirations, and the injury to Diggs will test the mettle of the team over the second half of the season.
