Houston Texans Sign Devin White To Help Out Defense

The Houston Texans signed Devin White.

Devin White has had a very interesting career to date. He once was a staple of a Super Bowl-winning defense. He was recently unable to make the roster as a starting linebacker for the Eagles, but the Houston Texans have picked him up since. He will be featured heavily in the coming weeks as Houston gets healthy on defense. How will he fare with the Houston Texans this season?

Devin White Leaves Philadelphia For Houston Texans

Most of the Houston Texans linebacker room is injured at the moment. Primary Linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair is still out with a knee injury, and Henry To’oTo’o is still seeing limited work at practice after a concussion. Considering these injuries, it’s clear the Texans needed a linebacker, but they didn’t get just any linebacker. They got Devin White.

It was only a few years ago when White was making a name for himself flying around the field and making clutch tackles. He was a big part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense that was able to stop Patrick Mahomes from getting a ring that year. White, along with Shaquil Barrett and Devin White among others stifled Mahomes.

Seeing as he was unable to make the roster for Philadelphia, some may say that Devin White’s best days are behind him. Here is the thing, though; he is only 26 years old. White is still capable of putting on work on a football field, making him the perfect candidate to fill in for the Texans’ injured linebackers.

White Will Have Big Impact On Banged-Up Defense

With Devin White added to the mix, the Houston Texans defense is close to where they were with everyone healthy. The other big missing piece is Cornerback Kamari Lassiter, who was limited in practice on Wednesday while his shoulder heals up. In terms of a front seven, though, Houston still has Will Anderson Jr. who recorded four sacks in the last two games.

Devin White’s first game will be against division rival Indianapolis Colts. This game is a big one for Houston, considering the Colts are the only other team that could challenge them for the division. The Houston Texans beat the Colts back in Week 1, and a win here would guarantee the tiebreaker win if both teams end up with the same record.

One big issue for the Texans will be stopping Running Back Jonathan Taylor if he ends up playing. Taylor was limited in practice on Wednesday and practiced today. If he indeed ends up on the field, White could provide great value by chasing him down and stopping those long carries that Taylor is accustomed to. It’s unclear whether or not White would start once Al-Shaair and To’oTo’o return. If he puts in a good game against the Colts, however, Devin White might breathe new life into his career and earn himself some more playing time.
