Houston Texans Lose In Second Half To New York Jets

The Houston Texans could not overcome injuries last night to the New York Jets.

The Houston Texans battled with a banged-up crew on Thursday Night Football but ultimately lost 21-13 against the New York Jets. Most of the game was a defensive struggle, with neither team pulling away with any substantial momentum. Two touchdowns to Garrett Wilson put the game out of reach for the Texans.

First Half Struggles For Both Teams

The first half of the game kept the scoring and yardage columns low. Both Aaron Rodgers and C.J. Stroud struggled to move the ball downfield. The Houston Texans opened with a pass-heavy game plan, but they started seeing more success once they started running the ball with Joe Mixon. The first touchdown of the game would be scored by Mixon.

The New York Jets finally scored in the second half when Rodgers was able to connect with Wilson on a post route to the middle of the endzone. This was the first of two key touchdowns for Wilson, who had a better game than even Davante Adams, whom many thought would be Rodgers’ primary option.

The second touchdown to Wilson caused some controversy. Wilson made a one-handed catch in the back of the endzone, but he fell out of bounds as he caught the ball. The play was initially called incomplete, but after review, they found that Wilson’s shin dropped inside the endzone before he touched the white of the boundary. This was a close touchdown that fans will be talking about for the next week.

Houston Unable To Respond After Wilson’s Touchdowns

The score after Wilson’s second touchdown was 14-10. The Houston Texans would try to respond, but their offensive woes came to light in the second half. New York’s defense kept Mixon from his big runs, which forced C.J. Stroud to win with his arm. The only reliable option Stroud had in the game was Tank Dell, who did catch six balls for 126 yards.

Houston’s offensive line had more trouble protecting Stroud in this game. Stroud was sacked eight times, which counted for 56 lost yards. During the other plays, Stroud did not have time unless he rolled out, and even then, a defender trailed him. Stroud didn’t have a great game. He went 11-of-3o for 191 yards, but he probably wanted better protection and some of his injured receivers back.

In the fourth quarter, Rodgers did throw a touchdown to former teammate Davante Adams. Houston could only respond with a field goal. They did get the ball late in the fourth quarter with a chance to come back. Stroud took a big sack in the red zone, which led them to go for a field goal and an onside kick. The Jets recovered the onside kick, sealing the win for them. This brings the Houston Texans down to 6-3 on the season. The good news is that they might get Nico Collins back as soon as next week.

Conclusion

The Houston Texans struggled in New Jersey on Thursday night to overcome an injury-plagued roster. They will have a mini-bye, but their schedule will not get any easier. They welcome the Detroit Lions to town on Sunday, November 10.
