Honda’s MotoGP rider has come out with a moving message for Spanish oil and gas major Repsol, as it winds up its title sponsorship of the team at the end of this year. It also signifies the last chapter of a historic 30-year-long association that will go down in the history of MotoGP.
A Legacy of Success
Repsol and Honda wrote a chapter of legends in the World of Motorcycle Sport over the three decades of partnership. Pumped out fifteen riders’ championships out of which royalty names like Mick Doohan, Alex Criville, Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden, Casey Stoner, and Marc Marquez belong to Repsol Honda. Reflecting on the partnership, Puig, the team manager, expressed his gratitude:
I think that both companies did a fantastic job. This alliance was great for 30 years. We achieved many titles and demonstrated clear dominance in the sport for a significant period.”
The partnership has been marked by a strong synergy. Repsol developed a top-notch product for Honda bikes, while they delivered high-performance machines that showcased Repsol’s potential. Despite the end of the partnership, Puig emphasized the mutual respect and appreciation between the two companies.
Both companies are very grateful for the efforts each made during this long journey. From Honda’s perspective, we are happy and thankful. The titles and victories we achieved together will remain a part of motorsport history.
Challenges for Honda

Nevertheless, their recent past has not given that kind of performance. However, the team has had its setbacks; for example poor form. Earlier this year, Repsol can be observed becoming less, and less visible on the bike, which signified that they will no longer be the titular sponsor anymore. Honda has underperformed, the last clinching a grand prix in three seasons, and Marc Marquez, a premiere rider transferring to Gresini Ducati. Presently Honda occupies the 11th position and is at the bottom of the teams’ list.
Future Uncertainty
At the end of this partnership, Repsol has not declared if it will continue to sponsor another MotoGP team. The end of this era makes fans think of the great performances from the past as well as gives some insight into the future of Honda and Repsol in the MotoGP racetrack.
The existing announcement that Repsol will be out of MotoGP spells the end of an important era of the most popular racing class. The successes of the last thirty years shall remain a part of the sport, and both fill the further path despite the achievements earned mutual respect.
