After seven years of confusing defenses and infuriating opposing coaches, Taysom Hill is apparently lining up to do even more next season. New Orleans Saints Offensive Coordinator Klint Kubiak has been finding new ways to use Taysom Hill, beyond his current roles as quarterback, tight end, running back and flex receiver.
Hill has been very effective and entertaining over the years, with defenses often simply losing track of him coming out of the huddle. His highlight reel is a montage of defenders scratching their heads. Hill is unique in the NFL, no other team has a player who comes close to being as versatile and disruptive.
A “Swiss Army Knife” for the New Orleans Saints

Taysom Hill has been an indispensable weapon for the Saints in short yardage situations as a quarterback, usually lining up in shotgun and plowing headlong into the line for a first down, but also being able to drop back and zing a short pass if the opportunity arises. Hill recently spoke to local reporters about his elastic role with the Saints going forward:
“It’s been a lot of fun,” Hill said, via the New Orleans Advocate. “It’s weird to say after seven years of doing what I’ve been doing that I’m being asked to do things I’ve never done before. That is exciting to me and it’s challenging, and I love to be challenged like that. I’m grateful for those guys creating unique and fun opportunities for me.”
Klint Kubiak Expanding Taysom Hill’s Duties

Klint Kubiak has made major changes to the New Orleans Saints offense for 2024, bringing in lots of help for the offensive line, along with a couple of quarterbacks. With plenty of depth at QB, Kubiak has chosen to expand Taysom Hill’s role, particularly in the backfield. According to reporters present at OTA’s, Hill has been lining up at tight end, shotgun running back, and even as a lead-blocking fullback.
Kubiak was hired this offseason, replacing longtime OC Pete Carmichael. Kubiak brings fresh eyes and intends to get the most he can out of Taysom Hill and the rest of the offense. Both Kubiak and Head Coach Dennis Allen have expressed the goal of incorporating more play-action into the Saints offense, an area where they were last in the league in 2023.
Along with play-action, the Saints will be incorporating more runs into the offense. With a new and improved offensive line, the New Orleans Saints should be able to create some space for Alvin Kamara, Taysom Hill, and the rest of the Saints RB squad. Hill was second in rushing yards last year, behind only Kamara. Alvin Kamara wasn’t the same guy last year as in previous seasons, but the upgraded O-Line could be the solution for that.
With new blood on the field and on the sidelines, the New Orleans Saints should look like a different team in 2024. And, with a “secret weapon” player like Taysom Hill, there will definitely be a few surprises.
