Friday night, Smackdown ended with a surprise return of the “Wiseman” Paul Heyman coming to the aid of the Original Bloodline. The OTC Roman Reigns and crew were looking for a 5th member to enter War Games at Survivor Series. They searched long and far for the 5th guy, and with no plan, they entered the squared circle to face off against Solo Sikoa and the new Bloodline. Paul Heyman’s voice was heard over the microphone as he appeared, announcing the final member of the team would be his old client and friend, CM Punk.
Heyman’s Potential Role at War Games
Last week, Smackdown ended with Roman Reigns trying to reach out to his “Wiseman” Paul Heyman. The Original Tribal Chief was unsuccessful in reaching Heyman as it seemed like his number was unavailable. Did the “Wiseman” not have cellular service? It doesn’t seem likely. What other explanation could it be? Could it be that Heyman blocked Reigns’ number?
We haven’t seen the “Wiseman” in a few months after Solo Sikoa and the new Bloodline power bombed him through the announce table. Reigns, the Usos, including Sami Uso, have been looking for a member to even up the odds against the new Tribal Chief. Seth Rollins refused to team with Reigns again, Roman said no to the idea of Cody joining the team, and there seemed to be no other options.
Paul Heyman returned with the surprise of CM Punk willing to join the OG Bloodline to make it a 5-on-5 War Games match at Survivor Series. Heyman could play a pivotal role in the match if they have him turn on his Tribal Chief and join a new Bloodline. First, Heyman couldn’t be reached by Roman Reigns on Smackdown.
Then, when he appeared on Friday night to announce the surprise of Punk, he wasn’t wearing his typical shirt and tie. Instead, Heyman was wearing a suit with a red shirt similar to Solo. The Bloodline has a tradition of initiation to beat members in; remember Reigns and the Usos at the beginning. So would this be the same as putting the “Wiseman” through a table?
Heyman If He Joins the New Bloodline
Roman Reigns and the Usos have improved their mic skills tremendously throughout the years and may not need Heyman as a crutch for their promos. On the other hand, Solo Sikoa and the New Bloodline could use some veteran help from the Advocate. Solo is starting to improve, but the other members who have not yet found their voice will benefit from having a talking piece added to the crew. This will also give legitimacy to the faction for fans who haven’t been sold on the idea yet.
The entire New Bloodline will benefit from Heyman’s managerial services. I think Jacob Fatu will be a perfect Paul Heyman guy. Fatu has a beast mentality like Brock Lesnar and should be slated as a main eventer-sooner rather than later. Fatu could be the face of the company as a giant, unstoppable heel. He has the “IT Factor” that every superstar wishes they had, and the commitment and love he has for Solo will make it an even better story when the team splits up down the road.
Final Thoughts
The Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman dynamic, I believe, has run its course. Heyman is a natural heel with the respect and reputation to put superstars on the map, and I think he needs to do this with the New Bloodline. War Games will be the perfect opportunity for the “Wiseman” to switch sides and cost the OG Bloodline the match. WWE should treat the New Bloodline like Paul’s old crew, the “Dangerous Alliance.” Have the Advocate manage all five members, even if they aren’t always physically together. This would give another element to the Bronson Reed character as well.
