Henry Cejudo Considers Sean O’Malley’s Win Over Sterling a “Fluke”

Henry Cejudo Considers Sean O’Malley’s

Henry Cejudo and Sean O’Malley have been trash-talking against each other for a long time on social media. Cejudo shocked everyone by revealing he would now fight the former Bantamweight Champion. O’Malley defeated Aljaiman Sterling long ago and claimed the championship for him. He thought he could have done the same against Merab Dvalishvili.

Following O’Malley’s recent defeat to Dvalishvili at UFC 306, Cejudo believes he could easily get a win over him. However, in the social media exchanges, Cejudo believes that O’Malley might look forward to dodge the fight against him because of his latest performance. The second option for Cejudo will be to move to 125 pounds if O’Malley does not fight him soon.

Due to Cejudo and O’Malley being engaged in a word war on social media for some time now, O’Malley went to the limit when he made fun of Cejudo’s famous podcast before their fight at UFC 306. So, if a fighter and champion like O’Malley has fallen from the top and the heights of his division to where he is now, he would not like to fight a ranked challenger like Cejudo.

Henry Cejudo said this on his podcast ‘Pound 4 Pound podcast’. “I would love to fight him. I think with all the trolling that we have done to each other we both live in the same damn city but I just don’t think that he’s going to want to fight me. Particularly right after this performance that Merab did to him. Like I said, Merab was lucky that I was hurt in that fight. I had no conditioning due to not being able to wrestle because of a torn groin. But I took my chances because I wanted to fight him, I wanted to fight at the Sphere, I wanted to beat him up in front of everybody. But that’s not the case.”

Possible Transfer to 125

However, Cejudo is not certain that it will come to pass. If Cejudo wants to fight O’Malley, his willingness to wait will be rewarded. After the fight, O’Malley shocked everyone by revealing that he had a torn muscle in his hips and was going to get surgery. For that reason, he will be sidelined from UFC for about a year.

“So I think moving forward, if Sean O’Malley is willing and wants to fight this troll who’s the true king of Arizona, then here I am. But if not, I’m returning to 125 pounds because I won’t waste my time.”

Final Thoughts

The tensions between O’Malley and Cejudo are not gone, but this battle is unlikely to occur in 2024 or early 2025. O’Malley wants to fight and compete for the Bantamweight Championship again, where he may fight Umar Nurmagomedov.

But if he loses, Henry will be permitted to fight O’Malley. How do you feel about this rivalry between Henry Cejudo and Sean O’Malley? Feel free to use the comment section to share your thoughts.
