CR7, who plays for Al Nassr, is known for outperforming everyone in the games that matter the most. He has saved Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus in various season-determining games in the past and he didn’t disappoint last night.
After losing in their first knockout stage match to Al Ain, the team was determined to make a comeback at home. The Saudi Arabian powerhouse was 1-2 down in the first half, but they managed to make a comeback in the second half.
The match started with Rahimi proving Al Ain’s dominance in the AFC Cup in the 28th minute with a unique goal. He continued his exceptional run with a second goal before the 1st half ended, which extended their lead by 3 goals.
Al Nassr managed a dramatic comeback with Ghareeb scoring in stoppage time. The drama continued in the 2nd half with Eisa Khalid, Al Ain’s goalkeeper, conceding an own which gave CR7’s team the needed lifeline. Telles leveled the score line in the 72nd minute with a free-kick that forced the game to extra time.
The Dramatic Extra Time
After forcing an exceptional comeback, Al Nassr received another blow in the extra time when they received a red card. Ayman Ahmed received a controversial red card in the 97th minute after being involved in a controversial encounter.
Yaya had been given a yellow card but VAR’s intervention saw him being sent out giving Al-Ain an advantage. Shamsi took advantage of the red card and scored their 3rd goal giving them a lead at the 103rd minute.
Despite being less than 11 players on the pitch, Al Nassr still pushed on with their main objective being forcing the game to penalty shootouts. Ronaldo became their beacon when he scored a late penalty and his 878th goal. This helped level the game, giving Al Nassr’s fans hope one more time.
The Penalty Shootout
Unfortunately, the rollercoaster ended in despair for the home team and Cristiano Ronaldo as they lost 3-1 in the shootout. Al Ain’s players were resilient and managed to score all their penalties with Rahimi leading the team.
On the other hand, Al Nassr lost their first 2 penalties with Cristiano scoring the 3rd one. Their hope for proceeding to the semifinals was crashed when Octavio’s penalty went off target. This forced the referee to end the match with Al Ain proceeding to the semi-finals.
Cristiano Ronaldo loves football and he didn’t go to Al Nassr just for the money. He helped the team reach the quarter-finals and despite his age, he played his heart out. Ronaldo was the only one who scored in the penalty shootout.
Cristiano was heartbroken and distraught when the match ended. He wept inconsolably after the referee blew the final whistle showing his desire to win the intense clash. Despite the loss, Cristiano Ronaldo did manage to increase his career goal tally to 878.
