Hasan Ali is denying claims from Hafeez when it comes to players taking naps in the dressing room. Ali plays as the right-arm-pacer of Pakistan’s cricket team. Hafeez claimed players were sleeping while a match was going on. Hafeez felt like it was important for them to be together as a team.
Hafeez Is Former Team Director
Hafeez was director of the men’s cricket team from November 2023 to February 2024. Not only was he the director, but Hafeez was the team’s interim head coach.
Hafeez played great and showcased his skills on the pitch. The Pakistan team was ousted from the T20 World Cup 2024 due to a lack of skilled players. Hafeez expressed disappointment by saying the players were not disciplined in their skills.
Hafeez spoke with England’s Michael Vaughan and Australia’s Adam Gilchrist. Hafeez discussed with Vaughan that if players were sleeping during a Test Cricket Match, then how could they win the T20 World Cup 2024? “You should tell me, Gilly, if a player is sleeping in the dressing room while we are playing Test cricket,” Hafeez asked Gilchrist. “Nearly 4-5 players are sleeping in the dressing room. Should I allow that as a team director?”
Ali Harkens Back to Previous Rules
After Hafeez’s claims, Hasan Ali opposed them for different reasons. Ali brought up the rules of previous management. He said they allowed players to take a nap while in the Test Cricket Match. Previous coaches even let fast bowlers take a nap during a match.
He said no player has or will do the same after Hafeez decreed no naps in the dressing room. Ali agreed with Hafeez. “I don’t know, actually, but it should be the way Hafeez said,” Ali said in an interview. “I don’t think anyone would or have slept in the dressing room after that.”
Ali focused on the fast bowlers’ need for recovery. They need good energy before joining a match again. That was the reasoning behind previous coaches allowing for naps. “But I would say especially the fast bowlers pointed out, that when you bowl for one and a half days you need to recover, and you could take a 20-30-minute nap, but for those who really need it,” Ali said.
Vaughan Raises A Question
As was pointed out, Hafeez talked with Vaughan and Gilchrist. Admittedly, there is a long way to go when it comes to maturing and growing as a team. “Are they tired?” Vaughan asked. Hafeez said they shouldn’t be taking naps. He also said that discipline is needed, too.
“I don’t know,” Hafeez said. “I went to the dressing room and I found 4-5 players who were sleeping while playing Test cricket. I was like, ‘How come you guys can do that?’ If you do something like this and you are a player of this team, you cannot be a part of this team.”
