Finally, England batter Harry Brook responded to rumors surrounding him becoming the future white-ball captain of the English cricket team. The 25-year-old is set to captain the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred. He missed the first few games because of the third Test between England and West Indies.

Harry Brook said that he was surprised by the talk of English white ball captaincy. He believes that becoming an England white-ball captain is a bit beyond him at this point in his career. He says he’s just getting started on his first captaincy role with the Superchargers, so he wants to do well in that. Moreover, he doesn’t see major changes coming just yet and wants to focus on Test cricket. Furthermore, as far as his role within the England setup goes, he doesn’t see too much changing in the immediate future as he focuses on Test cricket, which is where the real priority lies.
He also said that Fred asked him to be captain of The Hundred and thought he would do a good job. Brook indeed missed the start of the season but feels he’ll be a relaxed captain as all training will be optional and the players should stay relaxed and enjoy their game. In the 50-over World Cup, England won only three of its nine games and failed to qualify for the semi-finals. In the T20 World Cup, they were also severely beaten by the subsequent champions, India. These results have been the cause for several reshuffles in leadership and strategy within the team.
Brook’s Impressive Record
Even with all the speculation about the captaincy, Brook has never been far from the action with performances: scoring 1,114 runs with six half-centuries in 39 T20Is and 15 ODIs for England, he has been productive all along. The right-hander has insisted that even though he transformed into an all-format batter,
Test cricket would still command his priority. The youngster has an incredible record with the red ball, scoring at an average of 62.54, with five centuries from his 14 Tests.
Harry Brook said he wants to play every Test match for England because, for him, Test cricket comes first. He doesn’t want to think about long-term things like the Ashes just yet. His main priority lies in the present. Moreover, his first home-ground century saw England take a 1-0 lead in the series after winning the second Test at Trent Bridge as well. The finale of the series will be held in Edgbaston on July 26.
