Scoring record-breaking 36 league goals, which helped Man City to claim the Premier League title. won the Champions League as the Highest goal scorer and the FA Cup—a treble, in his season at Manchester City.
the talents of both Haaland and Osimhen would be wishful thinking for any football club. But as the Gods of football would have it, a chance of such a wish has fallen upon Arsenal.
Who is this Newly Found Haaland Osimhen Esque?
Chidozie Martin Obi. Formerly known as Martin Obi is a 16-year-old Danish football prodigy currently playing for the U-18 side of Arsenal football club.
Obi was born in Denmark, in a small town in Copenhagen, Glostrup. To a Danish mom and a Nigerian Father. He moved to England as a child, where he subsequently joined Arsenal’s academy and has progressed ever since. Same as Haaland.
At the academy, Obi has been showing off his talent since the U-16s, where he scored goals against Liverpool, in a 14-3 scoreline.
Moving to the U-18s, his talents have further blustered, scoring 20 goals in 14 appearances.
Martin Obi’s Playing Style
The youngster’s international coach Jesper Mikkelsen likens his playing style to that of Haaland and Osimhen combined together.
He said: “Right now he is really dominant because of his physique, but I don’t think that is the only reason,” Mikkelsen said. “His greatest characteristic and challenge is that he really wants to score goals.
“When I say it can also be a disadvantage, I mean that he can sometimes play his own game. He is very searching for chances, where he forgets that you also have to play with the others.”
Given his international coach’s description of his playing style, it is evident that Osimhen and Haaland could be envisioned. Obi 6 foot 2, mirrors directly, Osimhen’s ability to dominate opposing defenders and win aerial dues effectively.
Whilst he mirrors Haaland in his knack for putting the ball at the back of the net with ease. This is evident in the 20 goals already scored for Arsenal U18 this season.
What the Future Holds for Obi?
Though it may be too early for him, to get promoted to the first team, since Mikel Arteta had once shown faith in playing his fellow U18 teammate Nwaneri in a Premier League match, his promotion would likely come very soon.
