This came to the fore during the Singapore Grand Prix as AlphaTauri’s Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest lap in the later stages to deny McLaren’s Lando Norris a valuable bonus point in the drivers’ race. The decision was considered to have a positive impact on Verstappen, Red Bull’s racer in the championship, and fanned the controversy over the unfair competition as the two teams were under the same owner.
According to Guenther Steiner, in any professional sport, and especially in Formula 1, no owner should be permitted to own more than one team.
