Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Week 1 Preview

The Green Bay Packers will face the Philadelphia Eagles tonight in Week 1. It will be the first game ever played in Sao Paulo, Brazil. One good sign for the Packers is that they are mostly at full strength.

Playing in a different territory will be a change for both teams. But, the Green Bay Packers have done it before. Here is a preview of the Week 1 matchup between the Packers and Eagles in Brazil.

Green Bay Packers Outlook

The Green Bay Packers have their starting signal caller in Jordan Love. That is no longer in question as he signed a four-year deal worth $220 million before the preseason began.

The Green Bay Packers now have a list of veteran receivers in DonTayvion Wicks, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Romeo Doubs. Doubs was limited in practice early in the week due to a hand injury, but should be ready for play.

With the absence of Aaron Jones at the running back position, the Packers signed Josh Jacobs as a replacement behind the quarterback. Green Bay also has leadership on the defensive side as well.

Players such as Rashan Gary, Preston Smith, and Kenny Clark could be a handful for the opposing offensive line against the Eagles. The secondary brought in a new safety in Xavier McKinney from the New York Giants during the offseason.

Last season, McKinney had a decent year with the Giants totaling 78 tackles, a half sack, and three interceptions. It will provide more experience on the back end for the Green Bay Packers defense as a unit.

If the Packers can be fundamentally sound, they will have a good chance to come out victorious on Friday night.

Philadelphia Eagles Outlook

After a list of injuries for the Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, he is looking to redeem himself in the 2024 NFL season. A year ago, Hurts threw 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

He almost reached the 4,000-yard passing mark, but was just shy of hitting those numbers. Third year wideout Devonta Smith caught 81 passes for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns.

Smith was Hurts’ top target in 2023. Alongside him will be Jahan Dotson, who is known for his speed and quickness. Defensively, the Eagles have extra defensive ends in Milton Williams and Jalen Carter.

Starting cornerback Isaiah Rodgers will be out due to a hand injury. The two teams will want to have good outings in the first week of the 2024 NFL season.

Fans will be excited to see their teams compete on the gridiron as the season kicks off tonight. The game will be televised tonight at 8:15 pm ET on Peacock in São Paulo, Brazil.
