Green Bay Packers Sign Pro Bowl Defensive Player To 3-Year Extension

Green Bay Packers Kenny Clark

The Green Bay Packers have one of the youngest rosters in the NFL. That didn’t stop them from winning a playoff game last year. While there is high praise for their young talent, the Packers also have some savvy veterans. The defensive side of the ball especially has some long-time Packers who have been key in teaching the young players the culture of the team. One of those veterans was three-time Pro Bowler Kenny Clark, who was due for an extension. The team finally got it done, locking him into a three-year deal.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X that the Green Bay Packers have extended Kenny Clark. The deal is for three years and $64 million, paying him $29 million in 2024. Clark was drafted by the team in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He has been a consistent contributor on the interior defensive line. While he has never made an All-Pro team, he has made three Pro Bowls and filled up the stat sheet.

In 123 games across eight seasons, he had 34 sacks, 380 tackles, 47 tackles for loss, 71 quarterback hits, and seven forced fumbles. This deal locks one of their key veterans for the immediate future while giving the team flexibility in the long run. The Jordan Love extension is also looming and will likely be a large one. Furthermore, the young players on the team will, at some point, need to get paid. This deal is great for both sides and keeps a defensive leader in Green Bay.

New Look Defense

Kenny Clark will be expected to lead the charge in this new-look defense. Joe Barry is gone after a handful of seasons in Green Bay, and former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley is now the defensive coordinator. He has promised to play a more aggressive style of defense, something the Green Bay Packers have been lacking in the past few years. Clark could be in for a huge season, along with third-year player Devonte Wyatt.

It’s always good to see long-time players stick with their original team. The Packers have historically taken care of the players who produce, and Clark is no different. Fans will be happy to see one of the fan-favorite players in the green and gold in the near future. He will help mentor the next generation of great defensive linemen for Green Bay.
