Breaking: Green Bay Packers Star Not Practicing

Green Bay Packers Jordan Love

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst said that Quarterback Jordan Love will not be practicing until a contract extension can be done. This is huge news coming out of Packers camp on Monday. This has been a major storyline for the Green Bay Packers throughout the entire offseason.

Love last season for the Packers completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also rushed for 247 yards on 50 carries and four touchdowns, along with averaging 4.9 yards per carry. Jordan Love was second in passing touchdowns last season. Only Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys had more than him. Love was also top in the NFL in passing yards.

With Love not practicing, he will still participate in team meetings during training camp for the Green Bay Packers. It is a good thing that he will be around his teammates despite not practicing for the moment. Along with Jordan Love not practicing, star Wide Receiver Jayden Reed is also not practicing because he was placed on the non-injured list. Reed is expected to be back with the team soon.

Michael Pratt or Sean Clifford Could Shine Here

With Jordan Love being sidelined for the Green Bay Packers, this opens up the door for the backup quarterback battle right away between Michael Pratt and Sean Clifford. Clifford would probably be the one who starts training camp with the first team because he is the projected backup quarterback on the roster at the moment. Pratt will also at some point see snaps with the first-team unit with Jordan Love sidelined.

The backup quarterback battle in training camp is going to be the biggest battle for Green Bay in camp. If Jordan Love’s contract talks continue to stall throughout training camp and if both Pratt and Clifford struggle, could they bring in a veteran quarterback in the meantime before Love comes back? It makes sense that Jordan Love does not want to risk injuring himself without a new contract during training camp and who can blame him for it?

Putting The Jordan Love Situation In Context

Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Trevor Lawrence received a five-year $275 million contract extension in the offseason. Lawrence’s contract extension could be something very similar to what Green Bay Packers star Quarterback Jordan Love receives. General Manager Brian Gutekunst told ESPN’s Rob Demovsky about Love’s contract talks potentially ending within the next few days:

“Yeah, I think so, but again, you never know. We’re working really hard to get that done. At the same time, the thing I have confidence in is we both want the same thing.”

Head Coach Matt LaFleur also added to the media about not adding a third quarterback to the roster for the time being:

“That’s a great question. Obviously we’re hopeful we’ll get something done here in the next … sooner than later. But that’s something that we’re gonna have to just adjust on the fly.”

The Green Bay Packers do not want to start the 2024 season with Jordan Love on the bench. It probably would not get to that point. Last offseason, Love needed all of the reps he could get because of where he was at with the organization. As they say, what a difference a year makes. Who would have thought at this time last year, that Jordan Love would have been in talks about a contract extension with the Green Bay Packers?

Not many people thought that he was going to be Aaron Rodgers or Brett Favre, but there were glimpses of Love’s game that showed he could make throws like Rodgers did with the Packers. As long as Jordan Love stays healthy for the Green Bay Packers this season, they will be Super Bowl contenders.
