The Green Bay Packers made one big change this offseason. They fired defensive coordinator Joe Barry and hired former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley. Many Packers fans complained that Barry was not aggressive enough. That does not seem like a problem for Hafley. In a recent press conference, the new defensive coordinator talked about the mindset of the Packers defense.

"We're gonna attack… I want to lead the NFL in taking the ball away… That is priority #1. We have to take the ball away."

Jeff Hafley has one goal for the Green Bay Packers defense: attack.
“We’re gonna attack… I want to lead the NFL in taking the ball away… That is priority #1. We have to take the ball away.”
Packers fans have to be happy to hear this. The defense is full of talent but has never lived up to expectations. There have been many heartbreaking losses where the defense gave up a game-winning drive. Hafley wants to make sure this defense is wreaking havoc on opposing offenses. Many of the defensive players will be happy to hear this, especially the cornerbacks.
Packers Cornerbacks Licking Their Chops
Jaire Alexander has long advocated for being more aggressive in the passing game. It looks like he is going to get his wish. Second-year player Carrington Valentine impressed last year and is known for his lockdown man defense. The Green Bay Packers invested in their secondary, adding former Giants safety Xavier McKinney. Jeff Hafley has no shortage of weapons to deploy.
Teams should be concerned about the Green Bay Packers this season. Quarterback Jordan Love has a year under his belt, and all the rookie receivers will have a full offseason of work. If the defense can generate some takeaways, it will only help the young offense. This defense is going to attack, and it will be interesting to see if that was the missing piece from this team.
