The Green Bay Packers walked into the second day of the draft with a lot of draft capital. Thanks to trades with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills, Green Bay had many day two picks to work with. They have concentrated on the defense in the second round. After grabbing a talented linebacker earlier, the Packers took Georgia safety Javon Bullard in the second round.

GM Brian Gutekunst goes back to the Georgia Bulldogs well. This is a defense that already has multiple former Bulldogs, and they now will add another. Javon Bullard is an explosive 5-foot-10, 200-pound safety who was called a “stick of dynamite” by his former head coach Kirby Smart. Bullard is most famous for his huge hit on Marvin Harrison Jr. in the 2022 CFP Championship.
As the Ohio State Buckeyes were looking to mount a comeback, Bullard separated the talented receiver from the ball with a huge (but clean) hit. The Green Bay Packers need this kind of physicality on defense. New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has promised a more physical defense this year, and Bullard fits the bill perfectly.
Defense Taking Shape
Don’t look now, but the Green Bay Packers have a talented defense. Jaire Alexander is one of the top cornerbacks in the league, and Carrington Valentine was impressed in his rookie season. Xavier McKinney was one of the top safeties in free agency and the Packers were able to get him to come to Green Bay. Quay Walker heads up an explosive linebacking corp, and the pass rush looks as deep as ever.
Javon Bullard looks to be a perfect fit for the Green Bay Packers offense. They can pair him with the young but experienced McKinney and hopefully disrupt what teams are trying to do on the back end. This team is very young but comes into 2024 with high expectations especially for their defense.
