The Green Bay Packers are entering Week Two of the 2024 regular season. They will take on the Indianapolis Colts tomorrow at Lambeau Field for the first time this season. Both teams are coming off of close losses from the previous week. Both games were winnable for each franchise, but they could not get it done on the field.
With questions on both sides, it will be an interesting matchup as one team will look to bounce back and get a win under their belt this week. Here is a preview of the Week Two matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Indianapolis Colts.
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 34-29 last week. Many opportunities were missed as drives were stalled, forcing a punt or field goals. Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love will be out in Week Two after suffering a torn MCL injury toward the end of regulation in Brazil.
Malik Willis will replace Love as the starter tomorrow against the Colts. Willis has started in three games dating back to his time with the Tennessee Titans. Second-year wideout Jayden Reed was the top target last week with four catches for 138 yards and one touchdown. More receivers will need to get involved in the offense if the Packers want to come away victorious.
Defensively, Xavier McKinney and Jaire Alexander came up with critical interceptions against the Eagles,. But, the offense could not capitalize when the opportunity to score arrived. The defensive front for the Green Bay Packers will have to get to the quarterback on Sunday as Richardson can scramble for yards on the ground and also throw through the air.
Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis lost their first game at home to the Houston Texans in Week One. Colts QB Anthony Richardson went 9-19 for 212 yards passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Jonathan Taylor rushed for 48 yards on 16 carries with one touchdown. Ironically, Richardson was also the top rusher on the offense last week with 58 yards on the ground.
On defense, they were not able to stop the duo of CJ Stroud and Nico Collins in the passing game. Stroud went 24-32 for 234 yards and two touchdowns. Collins caught six passes for 117 yards as the deep threat downfield for the Texans offense. Alec Pierce was the Colts leading receiver with three catches for 125 yards and a touchdown.
Nick Cross led the defense in tackles for the Colts with 13. While Julian Blackmon was second with 14 total tackles and 10 solo. However, Colts safety Julian Blackmon will not play against the Green Bay Packers after injuring his shoulder a week ago. This is another big loss for the Colts secondary.
Final Thoughts
Defense will be the key for both teams as they gave up the same amount of points to their opponents in Week One (29). The Green Bay Packers offense will look different without their starting quarterback. Indianapolis has the advantage in that area for the upcoming game. The game will kick off at 1:00 pm ET on Fox.
