Green Bay Packers Claim K Brayden Narveson Off Waivers From Titans

Green Bay Packers rookie kicker, Brayden Narveson

The Green Bay Packers have filled up their practice squad roster before the 2024 NFL season. After roster cuts were made on Tuesday afternoon, a former Packers kicker was released from the team in Anders Carlson. Veteran kicker Greg Joseph was the possible replacement behind Carlson. But, the Green Bay Packers had other ideas.

On Wednesday afternoon, Green Bay claimed rookie kicker Brayden Narveson off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans. To clear a spot on the 53-man roster, the Packers also released Greg Joseph from the organization. Head coach Matt LaFleur saw something in the young rookie kicker from his preseason moments with the Titans. Now, Narveson will get his opportunity in Green Bay.

Brayden Narveson made stops at Iowa State, Western Kentucky, North Carolina State, and NC State. In his first five years of college, Narveson never missed a field goal. Last season, he went 18-23 before graduating from NC State. Right now, it is unknown to the Green Bay Packers staff as to what the rookie kicker is capable of.

The only evidence that the Packers staff has is seeing his kicking performances in the Tennessee Titans‘ second preseason game. Brayden Narveson made 6-7 field goals in the first three preseason games. He was able to show his leg strength by sinking a 59-yarder against the Seattle Seahawks almost two weeks ago. His highlights included a 46-yard field goal to beat Seattle as time expired.

Narveson looks to have a promising future with the Green Bay Packers, as long as he can be consistent. This is the second year in a row that the Packers will use a rookie as their starting placekicker.

Green Bay Packers Roster

Green Bay has their 53-man roster set for 2024. They have re-signed quarterback Sean Clifford to the practice squad after originally releasing him on Tuesday during roster cuts. The Packers want to place their best players on the field to win games this season.

Former wide receiver Samori Toure, offensive tackle Royce Newman, and linebacker Kristian Welch have all been released from the team. The Green Bay Packers are eyeing a championship after having a strong finish last year by making the playoffs. Second-year signal caller Jordan Love has solidified his place with the Green Bay Packers after signing a four-year contract extension worth $220 million.

The Green Bay Packers will face the Philadelphia Eagles in their first game of the regular season on September 6 in Brazil.

Final Thoughts

The kicking position will be critical for the Packers in 2024. Anders Carlson missed six field goals on the team last season. It was the most by a rookie as a placekicker. If Brayden Narveson can do his job and perform well, he could be staying in Green Bay for many years to come.
