The Green Bay Packers are continuing to make roster cuts. One question that is uncertain for the Packers’ special teams unit is the placekicker position. Anders Carlson was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Last season was his first time kicking in the National Football League.
Carlson went 27-33 on made field goals a year ago as a rookie with the Packers. According to Matt Schneidman, Green Bay has cut the second-year kicker from the organization. To many this may not come as a surprise, but the team will be moving forward with a new kicker.

The former Packers kicker ranked 23rd in the NFL as a rookie in 2023. He missed crucial kicks that would have won games for the Green Bay Packers last season. A lot of frustration was shown by fans because everyone was used to Mason Crosby during his tenure with the team.
Anders Carlson missed more kicks than any other player at the position. Seeing that his preseason effort was not up to expectations, this was the result of the organization releasing him on Tuesday morning. Veteran kicker Greg Joseph was alongside Carlson during the three-game preseason. He could potentially take the number one spot in replacing Anders Carlson in 2024.
Green Bay Packers Roster Moves
The Green Bay Packers have brought in an NFL quarterback from the Tennessee Titans. Malik Willis is in a spot to be the backup quarterback behind Jordan Love. Since they have been making roster cuts, Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers franchise have released former quarterback, Sean Clifford.
Clifford was the second guy in line as the signal caller last season in 2023. This preseason was not the best for him as he threw for 207 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the first three preseason games for the Green Bay Packers. Rookie quarterback Michael Pratt was released as well to create room for Malik Willis on the 53-man roster.

There is still time before the 2024 regular season begins. Many more roster moves will be made as the days go on. Although the release of Anders Carlson is not a big shock to Green Bay Packers fans, the coaching staff wants to put the best players out on the field to win games and be successful this year.
The Green Bay Packers will face the Philadelphia Eagles in their first regular season game in Brazil on September 6. It will be the first time that a game will be played in South America.
