Jack Grealish is as good as having a hard time in Manchester City throughout the entire season. He played in most of the major finals that contributed to their £100 million record-signing treble win. However, his recent form performance has been quite poor in comparison with his past; barely getting to play in the important matches.
While Gareth Southgate might have been pleased with what Grealish offered in this tournament, his place for Euro 2024 remains unknown. However, the manager Pep Guardiola is not dismayed by such bad performances expecting Jack Grealish to come good again. Can he come out and perform well enough so that he guarantees himself a place in the Euro squad and prove all his critics wrong?
Guardiola Believes Grealish Will Return to Form
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed confidence that Jack Grealish will come back into his element after what he declares has been a “struggle” so far this season. Dominant performer for City in their treble-winning season last year where the England international was also featured in the FA Cup and the Champions League finals for that all-important treble.
Grealish, 28, started both legs of the Champions League quarter-final defeat by Real Madrid but came on for only the last 10 minutes of the final five games in May. He had no opportunity to play during some important Premier League matches against Tottenham and West Ham, as well as during the FA Cup final, during which Wigan was defeated by Manchester United.
However, Guardiola clearly understands that there are no serious problems with the £100m record signing. They all smiled with confidence when the City manager said:
He is not at this level this season and Jeremy has become much better for everybody to see as in the last matches of the tournament If Jack will be again at the level of the previous season, I am sure.
What Lies Ahead for Manchester City?
Guardiola, for his part, has already declared that he will stay for the last year of his contract at City. That being said he does have matters that he need to be dealt with this past summer, even though his team landed the record of four consecutive English football league titles.
De Bruyne is only 32 and looks far from the world-class playmaker who signed a new contract last year; with one year remaining on his contract, he barely completed an hour against United. After his disastrous loan stint at West Ham, midfielder Kalvin Phillips will reportedly have no choice but to opt for a move this summer.
Meanwhile, doubts have been raised over first-team goalkeeper Ederson, who is reportedly a target for Saudi Arabian clubs, and Ortega, who had an error on the initial goal in the United match and his contract runs until 2025.
