Gone in 24: Rael Enteen Fired by Commanders

Washington Commanders jerseys have been released.

According to reports, the Washington Commanders fired their former VP of Content Rael Enteen Thursday after only suspending him on Wednesday.

The news comes as reports surfaced earlier this week of Enteen making disparaging comments during a dinner date with an undercover O’Keefe media reporter. John Keim broke the news on X, saying, “A team spokesperson confirmed that the Commanders have fired Rael Enteen, former VP of content after his comments to someone undercover working for @OKeefeMedia.”

The comments were recorded on video secretly as he ate dinner in July of this year. On his X account, James O’Keefe, CEO of O’Keefe Media explained how Commanders PR reached out to him Wednesday to get more information on the incident:

So we’ve gotten a response from the Washington from the Public Relations Department at the NFL Washington Commanders Football Team. [They asked] Can you share the footage you referenced and any details around when and where your recording took place? Our response [was] the recording took place in July in Washington DC. Story aired September third. We’ve shared the quotes that will make our story and we’re looking for comment.

Commanders Respond after Rael Enteen Firing

The Washington Commanders on Thursday via ESPN released a statement via their spokesperson. It said, “The language used in the video runs counter to our values at the Commanders organization.” Enteen worked for the Commanders for four years.  Since the news broke of the incident, he’s been on damage control closing down his social media accounts.

The following report may have language disturbing for some readers.

According to John Breech of CBS Sports, the video shows Enteen accusing NFL players of being homophobic and saying, “Over 50% of our roster is white religious, and God says, ‘F— the gays.’ Their interpretation. I don’t buy any of that…Another big chunk is low-income African Americans that comes from a community [that] is inherently very homophobic…” It didn’t stop there. Enteen also had some rough words for Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones. On the video he said, “Jerry Jones, who really runs the NFL, I think he hates gay people, black people.”

He didn’t hold back on the fans either, saying most of them are alcoholics.  He was eating dinner with a woman he was speaking to on a dating app, according to a post O’Keefe made on his X account.

Rael Enteen Firing Doesn’t Help Commanders’ Rebuilding Narrative

The firing of Rael Enteen was rightly justified and should have happened. However, this is one of many issues the Commanders are dealing with as they prepare for their Week 1 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The other issue? The ongoing quest by Commanders fans to get the team name changed back to “Redskins”. Earlier this year the Washington Post took a poll asking what people thought about the name “Commanders.”

The question was, “Regardless of what you think about the Washington Commanders as a football team, which of the following best describes how you feel about the name the Commanders. Do you love it, like it, dislike it, or hate it?”  The results concluded that 54 percent of the local fan base dislikes or hates the name.  Unfortunately, their opinions do not matter. Washington Commanders Owner Josh Harris is sticking with the name.

Speaking to media after the Commanders 20-10 preseason finale win over the New England Patriots Aug. 25, Harris told the media in attendance, “For obvious reasons, the old name can’t come back,” Harris said. “But right now, we’re focused on things to unify the team around our football team and unify the city around our football team. The first objective is we gotta start winning football games, and we need everyone supporting the team and not things that will drive people apart.”
