Golden State Warriors Eyeing Extension For Moses Moody

Golden State Warriors Moses Moody

The Golden State Warriors are attempting to make another championship run. Steph Curry is in the twilight of his career but has shown he can still be a dominant player in the NBA. The past few seasons have been disappointing for Golden State. Injuries have plagued this team, leading to some mediocre finishes. However, this means they have been able to acquire some intriguing young talent. One of those players is Moses Moody, and reports indicate the team is eyeing him for an extension.

Golden State Warriors Eyeing Moses Moody Extension

NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed the Golden State Warriors are looking at an extension “north of $10 million” in terms of per year salary. Moses Moody was the 14th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and is coming off a career year. While he is a bench piece for a team stacked with all-star players, he still averaged 8.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 36% from three. Moody is also durable, which is rare in today’s NBA. Having a player who can stay on the court is a huge advantage.

Moses Moody and other young players will have more opportunities this season. Klay Thompson is with the Dallas Mavericks now, leaving a void in the rotation. Chris Paul also decided to move on and sign with the San Antonio Spurs. While this is still Curry’s team, there will be more pressure on the young players to fill vital roles. The franchise has signed many quality role players and boasts one of the deepest rosters in the NBA.

Jonathan Kuminga Less Likely

Moses Moody was the only lottery pick by the Golden State Warriors in the 2021 draft. Jonathan Kuminga was the seventh overall pick and has shown flashes of greatness. However, reports indicate the Warriors and Kuminga are “still far apart” in contract talks. The young player wants close to a max deal, but the franchise does not seem keen on offering that much. Last season was the first time Kuminga was inserted into the starting lineup, and he was effective. He averaged 17.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting over 50% from the field.

However, the Golden State Warriors want to see more. There is no denying the raw talent, but if they are going to shell out huge amounts of money, they want to make sure they have a franchise player. Unless one of the sides makes a massive compromise, Kuminga will likely go into the season without a new deal. It will then be on him to prove he is worthy of the contract. This is one reason insiders believe Moses Moody is more likely to get signed. His asking price is much lower, and the Warriors would love to lock up a young player on a cheap deal to help push their franchise to the future.
